In a major update, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that Afghanistan will host Sri Lanka for a white-ball series on Monday. Notably, the tour will include three ODIs and three T20Is, and it will take place in the UAE from March 13 to March 25, 2026.
The series will start with the T20I matches. The first T20I will be played on March 13 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After that, the second and third T20Is will also be held at the same venue on March 15 and March 17.
AFG vs SL series to begin with T20Is in Sharjah
Therefore, both teams will play all three AFG vs SL T20I matches in Sharjah before moving to the next leg of the tour. After the T20I series, the action will shift to Dubai for the AFG vs SL ODI matches. The three ODIs will be played on March 20, March 22, and March 25 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
ACB CEO welcomes Sri Lanka tour
ACB CEO Naseeb Khan expressed his feelings about hosting Sri Lanka for the first time. He said the series shows the strong relationship between the Afghanistan and Sri Lanka cricket boards.
He also added that Sri Lanka have been playing very good cricket recently, and therefore fans can expect a competitive and high-quality series.

Moreover, both teams will begin this bilateral series just after finishing their campaigns in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

This AFG vs SL series will be significant for Afghanistan because it will be their first series without former head coach Jonathan Trott. Afghanistan recently parted ways with Trott, who had been their coach from 2022 to 2026.
Notably, the T20 World Cup 2026 was his final tournament with the team. Now, the side led by Rashid Khan is entering a new phase and transition period.
How Afghanistan and Sri Lanka performed in T20 World Cup
Notably, Afghanistan had a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. They failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage after finishing third in Group D. The team won 2 out of 4 matches and ended with a net run rate of +0.889. However, they finished their campaign on a positive note by defeating Canada in Chennai.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka performed better in the group stage. They qualified for the Super 8 after finishing second with 3 wins and 1 loss. However, their momentum slowed in the Super 8, where they suffered a heavy 51-run defeat against England on Sunday.
