West Indies Women’s tour of Zimbabwe comes to an end. They won the three-match ODI series by a 2-1 margin before whitewashing the hosts in a three-match T20I series. Zimbabwe Women showed good improvement in the ODI series but failed to put an all-around performance in the shortest format and as a result, failed to register a single win.
Chinelle Henry collects the Winners' Trophy and poses for the photographs along with her teammates. West Indies clean-sweep the three-match T20I series.
Chinelle Henry (West Indies Women Captain): "[How do you manage to get such a diverse set of characters to perform on demand?] Obviously, I think the youngsters, you know. Big, big congratulations to them. To see myself not to bat in this series was a great look which means that the youngsters did really well. The young ones coming up through the ranks and we have been asking this for a long, long time. Winning all three games by 8 wickets was really good to see, it means that the youngsters did a great job.
[What positives do you think that Zimbabwe can take from this series, though it was a tough series for them?] Obviously, as I said, gaining promotion to the ICC nation stuff. This is probably a good opportunity for them (Zimbabwe) and obviously for us to play against them. We also learned a lot, and I can't reiterate how much in that second ODI they came out and applied themselves. It was good to see how they came out in every T20I game and improved. If they continue to improve their individual games and team games, in the near future, they will be a force to reckon with."
Jahzara Claxton (Player of the Series):"[On her performance with both bat and ball. How does she manage to stay consistent across both disciplines?] It's just me backing my skills and putting my best foot forward for the team.
[Nearly pulled an absolute stunner at mid off. What's the secret behind your athleticism?] I am unsure. It is a loved feeling. Every time I get the opportunity to take a screamer, I hope to pull it off. Today, it wasn't the day."
Player of the Series: Jahzara Claxton
Stafanie Taylor (Player of the Match): "[Key behind her consistent success] Well, I don't think I got much runs in the ODI but Hayley batted really well for us. I think she was the pillar that stood there for us. In the T20Is I think the youngsters did really, really well. Our young opener absolutely smashed it all around the park. Unfortunately, she [Eboni Brathwaite] missed out today. We had a few injuries, and as a senior player, I had to step in and guide the team home.
[Are you speaking about all-round team performance?] Yes, as I said, the youngsters did really well. Our bowling attack was spot on. I have to give full credit to the youngsters."
Player of the Match: Stafanie Taylor
Josephine Nkomo (Zimbabwe Women Captain): "[Looks like you didn't get enough runs today] We did well today. It was a huge improvement. I hope we carry it forward to India.
[On converting the start to impactful knocks and improving the middle and death overs batting] I think it's just a matter of time before we can tick all our boxes. We have to stay consistent and positive. I'm sure it will all come together.
[Positives from this series to India tour] Like you said, we had some good starts with the bat. We saw some good bowling, like from Beloved today."
