For now, it's me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of my colleagues Akshay Bhide and Bishal Mandal. CHEERS!
Vancouver Anchors produced a dominant all-round display to beat Brampton Blitz by six wickets and book their place in the final. The stage is now set for the grand finale against Toronto Sixers, beginning a few hours later at 9:00 AM IST (8:30 PM Local). Stay tuned for the action.
Moeen Ali (Vancouver Anchors Captain): "[Pleased with today's win?] Yeah. We had a great start in the first few overs and got across the line.
[On their bowling in this competition] We have learnt a lot. We leaked a few runs in the first game but have found the right length. Finding that right length is crucial. Not too full and not too short. The bowlers have been great.
[On facing the Sixers in the final] Very difficult game. They have a good experience with Polly and Pooran. They are a very good side."
Martin Guptill (Brampton Blitz Captain): "[I guess almost every match day, you've been waking up in the morning thinking, 'Come on, boys, you can do it. Come on, get that top order going.'] Yeah, it is a bit like that. But look, we tried, you know. It wasn't through a lack of trying.
The boys at the top just couldn't ever get going, and we couldn't find that consistency throughout the tournament. But look, that's the way cricket goes at times. We had some really good performances through the middle. Asar Tribe was fantastic throughout, and JJ Smuts was brilliant as well when he came in. So, there were some really good performances. I've got to credit our bowlers too. They tried hard, kept coming in, kept running in, and kept us in the game.
[On Hardus Viljoen] I was just thankful he was on my team. I wouldn’t have fancied facing him on this wicket too much."
Akhil Kumar (Player of the Match): "[On his tournament so far] Yeah, it's been a great tournament for me. Just trying to do the basics right, as Mooen Ali keeps saying to us. Just trying to hit the lengths consistently.
[What's the secret behind their success] We are playing as a team. The chemistry is great. We are playing as a unit and that's why, we are in the final.
[What are the plans as a bowler in this tournament?] The boundaries are not big enough for the bowers. You have to bowl well."
Player of the Match: Akhil Kumar
6:18 AM IST, 5:48 PM Local Time: Vancouver Anchors made light work of the 102-run target, chasing it down by six wickets with 19 balls to spare. The convincing victory booked their place in the grand finale, where they will face the Toronto Sixers for the Canada Super60 2026 title.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Brampton Blitz were bowled out for 101 in just 9.1 overs by Vancouver Anchors. Blitz kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with only Asa Tribe offering resistance. He smashed 39 off 14 balls, including two fours and five sixes, but was eventually bowled in the eighth over. Martin Andersson and Akhil Kumar led the bowling attack with three wickets each, while Lewis Gregory claimed two and Chris Jordan picked up one. The Anchors' disciplined bowling effort ensured Blitz never gained momentum and failed to bat their full quota of 10 overs.
The Anchors got off to a brisk start, with Aneurin Donald smashing 20 off 9 balls and Aaron Johnson adding 11 off 7. All of a sudden, they lost three wickets in quick succession. However, Moeen Ali and Obus Pienaar steadied the chase with a crucial 42-run partnership, with Pienaar taking the attack apart. Moeen struck 13 off 7 balls, including two sixes, before departing at 83/4. Pienaar then continued his onslaught, bringing up a sensational 50 off just 15 balls, with one four and seven sixes. He remained unbeaten and finished the game with a hat-trick of sixes in the 7th over.
Hardus Viljoen claimed three of the four wickets that fell in the innings, but received little support from the rest of the bowling attack. Finley Dixon picked up the other wicket, while the remaining bowlers went wicketless. With a strong all-round performance, Vancouver Anchors stormed into the grand finale, where they will face Toronto Sixers for the silverware.
