After a days' gap the One-Day Cup shall return. Queensland will take on New South Wales on the 22nd of September at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. Live action will begin at 9:30 AM IST (2 PM Local Time). Do join us on time for the live coverage.
Western Australia are one of the most celebrated sides of the One-Day Cup with as many as 17 titles under their belt. However, in recent times they have suffered many such batting collapses. What would disappoint their fans is the manner in which the batters are throwing their wickets and the fact that they are unable to read home conditions. Tasmania on the other hand have started the tournament on the right note. They have made sure that their NRR gets a good boost as in any tournament, that is one factor that can come back to haunt or propel teams.
Player of the Match: Riley Meredith
3:41 PM IST, 6:11 PM Local Time: Tasmania win by 9 Wickets! This has been a hammering of all sorts from Tasmania. They have come to Perth and robbed the hosts with some high-quality displays of skill. The bowlers set the tone with some decent bowling and were helped with some ordinary batting by the hosts. With the target being so tiny, it just needed one good enough partnership to scale it down.
Tasmania won the toss and elected to bowl first. They set the tone early by reducing the hosts to 47/4. A couple of decent partnerships pushed the score to 91/5 before a terrible collapse broke out. The hosts slipped from 91/5 to 115/10. Ashton Turner and Cameron Bancroft top scored with 19 each to their name. The pick of the bowlers for Tasmania were Riley Meredith (4/11) and Beau Webster (3/31).
The chase was always going to be a matter of one good partnership and that is what the visitors got with their opening pair. Mitch Owen (43 off 29) alongside Caleb Jewell (41* off 43) set the tone up front with a fantastic 76-run stand. That killed the chase pretty quickly with not much left for the rest of the order. Beau Webster at number 3 smoked a run-a-ball 26* and finished the match with a cracking maximum. Tasmania got over the line with 9 wickets and 202 balls to spare. Only Brody Couch picked up a wicket for WA and had figures of 1/28. Mahli Beardman (0/42), Kieran Elliott (0/16), Ashton Agar (0/14) and Albert Esterhuysen (0/13) went wicketless.
6 SIX! That is a fine way to get across the line. Webster hits the winning runs in the most innovative way possible. Full ball outside off stump, Webster shuffles across crouches before getting inside the line of the ball. Then he ramps it with some fine timing to comfortably clear the deep fine leg fence for a maximum. Tasmania win by 9 wickets with 33.4 overs to spare!
