For now, this is Saptak Sanyal, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Dev Rajawat, Manan Mehta, and the scorer/analyst of this game Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Good night.
Tomorrow, two heavyweights will battle it out for victory. Queensland and Victoria will be up against each other at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane. The first ball will be bowled at 9:30 AM IST and 1 PM Local Time. Do join us for the live coverage.
Western Australia will leave the field with a sigh of relief. Jake Fraser-McGurk was timing the ball to perfection and was looking unstoppable. He would have taken the game away from WA, but the weather gods saved them. They will come back again after 48 hours to lock horns with Tasmania, while South Australia will play their next game against Tasmania on Wednesday.
6:18 PM IST and 8:48 PM Local Time: South Australia clearly had the upper hand as Jake Fraser-McGurk's belligerent knock propelled them to 58/0 in the 8th over. But rain played spoilsport and Western Australia will be the happier side today. Let's have a quick recap of what happened in this game.
Western Australia came to bat first and got off to a good start as Sam Fanning and Joel Curtis added 41 runs in 49 balls. But both of them fell and Cameron Bancroft also did not impress and they were down to 59/3 in the 11th over. Ashton Turner and Will Malajczuk departed cheaply and WA were 5 down with just 87 runs on the board. Hilton Cartwright and Ashton Agar added 23 runs each, but both perished in a quick succession to see their team reeling with 134/7 on the board. But the 8th wicket stand between Kieran Elliott and Brody Couch changed the complexion of the game. They added 69 runs in their partnership and Elliott top scored with his unbeaten 53 to help his team post 238/9 in their 50 overs.
For the South Australia team, Henry Thornton picked up 4 wickets for 52 runs in 9 overs. Jordan Buckingham and Wes Agar chipped in with a couple of wickets each. Jerrssis Wadia removed Malajczuk.
South Australia came in pursuit of the 239-run target and Jake Fraser-McGurk did not spare any of the two new ball bowlers of Western Australia. Kieran Elliott conceded 27 in 3.4 overs and Mahli Beardman went for 29 in his 4 overs. The rain interrupted the game in the 8th over and the intensity of it did not allow the game to resume further. 15 overs of play was needed at least to get a result, but that did not happen.
6:15 PM IST and 8:45 PM Local Time: Right then! The rain has the final say in this game. The drizzle persists, center wicket remains under covers and the officials have decided to abandon the game.
5:55 PM IST, 8:25 PM Local Time: Nothing new to report, as we haven't received any updates, which means everything is the same as before. The waiting game continues... We need at least 15 overs of play in this innings to get a result.
