After a days' break, the One-Day Cup returns with Victoria vs New South Wales. Join us on the 25th of September at 9:30 AM IST (2 PM Local Time) as both teams clash at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.
South Australia move to the top of the table with this win. They now have 1 win in 2 games with the other match getting washed out. The tone has been set well, and it is now up to them to build nicely on it.
This loss brings Tasmania down to second position in the table. They won their first game by a huge margin and have lost their second game pretty close. As a result, they continue to maintain a superb NRR. They shall brush this loss aside and look to continue the good work.
Player of the Match: Jordan Silk
1:55 PM IST, 5:55 PM Local Time: South Australia win by 7 runs. Phew! What a fantastic high-scoring thriller have we witnessed. At the halfway mark, with 383 on the board, South Australia might have just felt that they have enough. Well, eventually they did but not before Jordan Silk with his brilliant 142 gave them an absolute scare. Tasmania will be proud of the chase but will take some important learnings out of it as well.
Tasmania won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mackenzie Harvey (41) and Jake Freser-McGurk (88 off 47) set the tone with a fine 120-run opening stand. Jake Wetherald (92) and Matthew Gilkes (97* off 65) carried on with the momentum set up at the top to push South Australia past 350. They did lose a few wickets at the backend before finishing at 383/7 after 50 overs. The pick of the bowlers for Tasmania were Mitch Owen (2/39) and Matthew Kuhnemann (2/71).
Tasmania were off the blocks early with Mitch Owen nailing 4 sixes in the first 2 overs. He was soon dismissed for 26 off 13. South Australia struck twice more inside the powerplay to remove Caleb Jewell (13) and Beau Webster (11) as Tasmania were in a spot of bother at 57/3. Jordan Silk walked in at number 5 and stitched three fine partnerships through the innings. Firstly, with Tim Ward (61) he added 116 runs for the 4th wicket. Then with Nikhil Chaudhary (34) he added 93 for the 6th wicket. He followed that up by adding 53 off 38 with Will Prestwidge for the 7th wicket.
Through those massive partnerships, Jordan Silk brought up a stunning 142 off 106 balls and kept Tasmania alive in the chase. The 7th wicket stand came to an end when Silk was cleaned up by Thornton leaving Tasmania with 61 runs to get in 40 balls. Will Prestwidge (39) and Matt Kuhnemann (27*) got the required down to 18 off the last over but the task was just too steep as they fell short by 7 runs and were restricted to 376/8 in 50 overs. The pick of the bowlers for South Australia were Ben Manenti (2/54), Nathan McAndrew (2/72) and Henry Thornton (2/77). Campbell Thompson (1/50) and Wes Agar (1/75) were also amongst the wickets.
