3:26 PM IST, 5:56 PM Local Time: All set for the chase down. Western Australia has a massive task of chasing down 372 runs.
2:58 PM IST, 5:28 PM Local Time: End of the first innings and New South Wales have put a mammoth total of 371/8. First-down batter Sam Konstas has a big hand in bringing up that massive total as he top-scored with a fine 149 off 131 balls. Western Australia will have to bat out of their skins to chase it down as this WACA surface has pace and extra bounce in it.
Batting first, NSW opener Riley Kingsell fell early as the ball was moving and zipping off the surface. Sam Konstas and Josh Philippe then stayed in the middle and gave respect to Western Australia's pacers. But once the ball lost its shine, they started playing their strokes as the bounce on the wicket was true. The duo added 81 runs for the second wicket before Josh Philippe departed for 51.
After that, Ben Dwarshuis fell for a quickfire 20 but then Konstas had an 85-run stand for the fourth wicket with skipper Lachlan Shaw (44). Jack Edwards came in at 6 and also scored a 40-odd and had an 82-run stand for the fifth wicket with Konstas. In the process, Konstas brought up his century. His second ton in List A cricket. In the 47th over, Konstas departed for a career-best 149 with the team's score at 331. Jack Nisbet and Oliver Davies scored a few late boundaries and took their side over the 370-run mark.
For the hosts, Ashton Agar was the pick of the bowlers with 2/60 while Mahli Beardman also took a couple of scalps but conceded 85 runs in his 10 overs. Brody Couch leaked 85 runs in his 10 overs and bagged a single wicket. Albert Esterhuysen, Jordan Quiggin and Will Malajczuk took a scalp apiece as well.
Western Australia will have to bat out of their skins to chase down this target as the surface is not at all flat. In fact, it has extra pace and carry in it. Under the lights, batting on the bouncy WACA track becomes a tad more difficult due to the Fremantle Doctor, a Western Australian phenomenon, which aids swing bowling as well.
1 Finishes the innings with a shorter delivery in the middle and Tanveer Sangha shapes for the pull shot, but the ball catches the inside half and ricochets towards his pads to stop near the popping crease. A single is taken in the meantime, and New South Wales finish with 371/8 on the board. A sublime batting effort from the Blues on a pace and bouncy WACA track.
49.5 Albert Esterhuysen to Tanveer Sangha
0 Missed that one. Wide yorker and Tanveer walks across before trying to play a cheeky shot from the crease towards the third man. He fails to get bat on the ball and gets beaten on outside.
49.4 Albert Esterhuysen to Tanveer Sangha
2 Block-hole, just outside off. Gets deep into the crease and then digs it out to play it towards the right of the deep cover-point for a brace.
