For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu, Soumarya Dutta, and the scorer/analyst of this game Rajesh Pal. Have a good day!
Tomorrow, we have another game lined-up. South Australia and Tasmania will lock horns at the Karen Rolton Oval, Adelaide tomorrow. First ball will be bowled at 6 AM IST and 10 AM Local Time. Do join us for the live coverage.
Queensland will have to regroup before their next game. They need to work on their bowling. They posted 335 against Victoria last day, but failed to defend that. It is even worse for them today as they could not defend 358 against New South Wales. Bowling a lot of full tosses, offering widths have gone against them. New South Wales will surely be the happier side as the defending champions have started their season on a good note. This will give them a world of confidence ahead of their next game against Victoria on Friday, 25th September.
Player of the Match: Will Salzmann
4:58 PM IST, 9:28 PM Local Time: The New South Wales had a mountain to climb but they did not feel short of expert mountaineers. The aim for the expedition was set out right from the first few overs. Kurtis Patterson, Riley Kingsell, Will Salzmann, and lastly Jake Scott. These names were not just mere names but actors in the stage that set out a storm with their act and helped the New South Wales dent Queensland in Brisbane today. Overhauling a target of 359-run target with four wickets and six balls remaining is no joke.
Arriving for the chase, the New South Wales got off to a flyer after Kurtis Patterson pressed the accelerator early. He smoked Tom Straker all around the park with four sixes in the third over itself. Riley Kingsell anchored the innings at the start when Patterson notched up a quick 25-ball fifty.
Just when Ollie Davies seem to be middling the ball, Hayden Kerr outsmarted him to reduce New South Wales to 272/6 in 40 overs. Will Salzmann and Jake Scott added 44 runs in the next five overs together to rekindle the believe of chasing down this total. With every passing over, Queensland bowlers felt the heat. Although Swepson was tidy, Tom Straker leaked 105 runs in nine overs @11.67. The batting pair capitalised on this, fetching their fifties and finishing off the chase with an over to spare.
Previously, the Queensland side batted first and the openers forged a sensational stand. Hugh Weibgen and Jack Clayton showcased unreal synergies to better off the counterparts with a 156-run opening stand. The former was accelerating the knock while the latter was grafting the innings.
Subsequently, Marnus Labuschagne’s 60 in 467 balls added more substance to their first innings total of 358 runs. Although the middle and lower-middle order collapsed while trying to go big or go home, they posted a formidable 358 runs total in 50 overs. Lusty blows from Hayden Kerr and Mitchell Swepson towards the end of the innings propelled them this far after suffering hiccups during the slog overs. Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis were the stars with the ball, claiming three wickets each.
