Time for us to conclude our coverage from the first T20 match of the Monday double-header between MSC Maratha Royals and Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. TKM have finally got off the mark in this tournament and got a victory by a good margin with 24 balls to spare.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of the scorer/analyst of this match Ashok Dayma. Join us for the live coverage of the second match as the first ball will be bowled in about 45 minutes time.
Suryakumar Yadav (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East Captain and Player of the Match): "(Happy with the way you batted?) Absolutely. Very happy. I think this is the way I have been playing my cricket since the last five years or so. I really enjoy playing at the Wankhede Stadium. I had lost myself in between and now it is good to find myself and play the brand of cricket I enjoy. My team has been behind me for a long time. They wanted to see my to play a special knock and there's no better stage to deliver it than today. Also I would like to dedicate and give this award to Sylvester D'Souza. It was important to come here. Too humid, too hit. He took those five wickets. Five wickets in a T20 game is a big achievement. I would like to call him here and give this man of the match award to him. He has been working really hard since the last one and a half years. This is a perfect opportunity for him.

(What was the chat you had with Sylvester) I think it was very clear. As I said he has been working really hard since a few years. He could not get the breakthrough in local cricket and for Mumbai. I don't know for various reasons may be. I have seen him to grow and he was picked up by Triumph Knights. The way he bowled in the heat was very commendable. Hopefully he continues to win games for any team he plays.

(On Nutan Goel) I have been watching him grow from a very long time. We come from the same place, Anushakti Nagar, BARC. Our parents were government servants so not lot of cricketing opportunities was there. The way he came up the ranks, played a lot of local cricket, club cricket became the key. In Mumbai, if you play a lot of club cricket, score heavy runs, you will get the opportunity. I hope he goes onto play the same way he is playing. Some franchises notice and pick him. He is enjoying the game."
Lovely gesture from Suryakumar Yadav as he shares his player of the match award with Sylvester D'Souza who picked up a fifer in the first innings.

Time for the post-match presentations.
Siddhesh Lad (MSC Maratha Royals Captain): "(What was the chat after the first innings with the bowlers?) I feel we have got quality bowlers and experience in the line-up. We knew that the wicket was on the slower side. In the last game we bowled slower ones, the slower bouncers. But today the way Surya and Nutan batted, they took the game away from us.

(Did the bowlers lack execution?) It will be harsh if I blame my bowlers. I feel we could have added 25-30 runs more had we batted better. It was sticky and difficult to play the shots. It is alright. We will go back and do our homework.

(Did that partnership break cost you?) That is an area to worry for us. Our top order is not getting runs. Next game is a pressure game. We know we have got a good batting line-up too. I hope we will make a good comeback next game."
5:40 PM IST and Local Time: Finally. Finally. And Finally. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East have come out triumphant for the first time in this edition's Mumbai T20 2026 and their victory is led by their talismanic skipper from front. They have defeated the MSC Maratha Royals by 6 wickets and with 4 overs to spare. This defeat is going to dent Maratha Royals' NRR.

MMR were sent to bat first on a tricky deck by the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Sahil Jadhav and Siddhesh Lad played their shots from the start but nobody sustained. Sahil got dismissed for 15 by Sylvester D'Souza and when the spinners were introduced, Maratha Royals looked to be in trouble. Siddhesh Lad (24) was deceived by Sagar Mishra as he tried to step out and Murkar stumped him out. Hitesh Kadam removed Sachin Yadav and those two wickets in a quick succession broke them. They were reduced to 73/5 in the 10th over.

Maxwell Swaminathan and Chinmay Sutar stepped up then. It was tough to play the shots as the balls were gripping off the deck. But they together added 64 runs that arrested the collapse. Sutar scored 32 off 26 before he was called back retired out. And that decision actually backfired to the Maratha Royals. Tushar Deshpande was sent replacing him as a big hitter but he failed to make any impact today. After Sutar getting retired out, MMR scored just 17 runs in the next 17 balls and lost 4 wickets. Sylvester D'Souza was top notch in the death overs as he took four wickets there. He removed Swaminathan who top scored for MMR with his 36 off 29. And later he got the betters of Tushar Deshpande, Rohan Raje and Irfan Umair. He finished with 5/21. MMR finished with 152 and got bundled out.

Sagar Mishra took 2 wickets. Hitesh Kadam and Parikshit Valsangkar took a wicket each. Parikshit hit the hard lengths consistently and made the batters life a bit difficult.

When TKM came to bat, they got off to a steady start as Vedant Murkar got a couple of boundaries against the pacers. But Irfan Umair removed Vedant for 11 and Herwadkar was deceived by Bhosale as he found the long-on fielder trying to find a release shot. That brought Nutan Goel and Suryakumar Yadav together in the crease.

The pair of Nutan and SKY laid more emphasis on rotating the strike consistently and finding at least a boundary in every over. Surya led the charge and he swept the spinners at ease. He had a little trouble in timing the reverse sweep but later he corrected himself and found a boundary with that stroke. Nutan batted well from the other end and he was the first to find a maximum in the run chase. He used his feet nicely against the spinners. He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes to score 56 off 42 balls. But he could not finish the game as Atharva Bhosale knocked him over.

But Suryakumar didn't flinch despite the wicket. He got to his fifty and after losing his partner Nutan, he hit his first maximum in the 34th ball of his innings. Then he went on to finish the match and remained unbeaten on 72 off 36 balls hitting 13 fours and a maximum.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations.
15.6 Irfan Umair to Suryakumar Yadav
4 FOUR! GAME, SET, MATCH for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. Irfan bowls a short ball at the leg and middle stump. SKY stays leg side and hops to ride the bounce and slashes it over short third man and bounces inside the fence and goes to the rope. SKY remains unbeaten on 72 and finishes in a fitting way with a boundary.
