Glenn Maxwell (Player of the match): "It was a lot of emotions there. We've had a pretty tough time for the last two weeks. We still feel like we're a chance to play these finals and have a say in who wins this trophy at the end of the tournament. I'm pretty cooked. The last week certainly took it out of me. It takes you a while to get your full fitness back. It's the first time I'm back doing a lot of exercises where it's nice and warm. I seem to have always played nicely here. I feel like I've been batting really well this tournament. I've been going a bit too hard early but tonight I gave myself a bit more time. Hopefully, it sets me up well at the back end of the tournament. The quicks set it up for the spinners. The way that Haris Rauf, Sam Rainbird and Brody Couch started, we had them under pressure before we used our spinners whereas in the past when spinners have come on, they've had too much to do."
Melbourne Renegades won the toss and decided to bat first in the derby against the Stars. The decision backfired on them as they could only manage 122 runs in their 20 overs. The Stars came out with a mindset to go all guns blazing front the start. They did lose a few wickets early on, but Maxwell stood tall and did the majority of the scoring. The Stars managed to chase down the total in 14.3 overs and have won the encounter by 6 wickets.
The Renegades did not have a decent start in the game as they lost wickets early in the game. Harish Rauf crippled the top order dismissing Marsh and Maddinson for cheap, Harvey wasn't much help as well, as the batter soon joined the top order inside the pavilion. Finch and Fraser tried to stabilize the innings for their side, as Frazer scored 32 off 39 deliveries. Finch on the other hand played a decent knock worth 45 runs in 44 deliveries to help his side to a respectable total. The Renegades batters were never allowed to settle in, as Rauf, Couch, Ahmad and Zampa bowled great spells for their franchise tonight.
Maxwell promoted himself up the order and walked out to open the innings with Clarke. They went hard from ball one. Clarke and Webster were dismissed early on but post that the Big Show Maxwell took matters into his own hands and played a gem of an innings. He finished not out on 68 runs off 45 balls. That's some innings by the skipper. They finished it off in 14.3 overs and won the match by 6 wickets.
