Nicholas Pooran (MI New York Captain): "It was tough to come in and play back-to-back games. Credit to the boys. We knew we had to win today. Obviously, started from yesterday. We didn't give up yesterday and that is important in T20 cricket. We need to be consistent in T20. Getting the opportunity to bowl first today and Boulty showed his experience. The rest of the guys also followed up. For some reason, that first game always hunts us. We as a team we pride ourselves to get us. Kudos to the team for sticking around in tough times. 09:25 AM IST, 10:55 PM Local Time: A pretty dominant performance from start to finish for MI New York as they register the first win of the season. Nicholas Pooran finished with an unbeaten 68* (46) to help MI New York complete an eight-wicket victory with 14 balls to spare.
Chasing 159 for victory, the MINY opening duo of Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel got the team off to a fine start. Monank also had a reprieve when he was on 9 with Amshi de Silva dropping him at backward point off Adam Milne's bowling. de Kock and Monank put on 49 for the opening wicket before Amshi de Silva bowled the former with his very first delivery in the final over of the Powerplay.
Post the Powerplay, the scoring rate came down a touch with MI New York going through a period of 24 balls without a boundary. The dry run was broken in the 12th over as Nicholas Pooran took 16 runs off de Silva's bowling. In the next over, Hardus Viljoen did dismiss Monank with an in-swinging yorker to give some semblance of a hope to the Super Kings. The Super Kings' captain, Donovan Ferreira brought Akeal Hosein back into the attack for the 15th over and it turned out to be a long one with five wides as he tried to keep the ball away from Pooran and Kieron Pollard's arc.
The equation came down to 18 off 18 balls when Pooran started the over with a maximum. Meanwhile, Viljoen was removed from the attack after he bowled a second delivery over the waist. Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane stabilised the innings for the Super Kings with a 65-run stand before it was broken by Romario Shepherd as the former holed out to long-off. The Super Kings' skipper for the day, Ferreira also didn't add much to the score as Corbin Bosch dismissed him with a short delivery.
