That is all we have from the final group encounter of the 9th season of PSL. Till the time of the playoffs, it's ta-ta and goodnight from me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) and my fellow commentators Saket and Ajay Singh.
Wahab Riaz | Player of the Match: "There was pressure, but I backed my skills. You are never certain in T20 cricket. Shaheen played a great knock to bring the game close. Haris has made a big difference to Peshawar Zalmi ever since he has arrived. He is somebody who is hungry to show his capabilities and do well. You need experienced batters who can rotate the strike to score in Super Over, and that's why we sent Haris and Malik in to bat."
Shaheen Afridi | Losing Captain: "I have been practising batting. Trying to improve my batting in the nets along with the ball. The Pakistan team needs some batters and I am up for that. First, if I talk about the match, Peshwar played well. We dropped catches. If we take catches we will win matches. In the end, we played well and we will like to take the momentum into the semifinal."
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz who won the toss and opted to bat. It was a steady start for the Zalmi despite the loss of opener Mohammad Haris early. Hazratullah Zazai played some good shots but the momentum in the powerplay was provided by Kamran Akmal who played some delightful shots in one over against Shaheen Afridi to set the balls rolling for Zalmi.

However, they lost some quick wickets which again pegged them back. Despite a brisk start they couldn’t quite get going in the middle overs as the spinners tightened the screws around the Peshawar Zalmi batters not allowing them to go for the big shots. Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik shared a useful partnership in the middle to give some momentum to their side.

For the Lahore Qalandars, it was leggie Fawad Ahmed who replaced Rashid Khan in the playing XI who was the pick of the bowlers bagging two wickets for just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. He did bowl a few loose deliveries but bagged some crucial wickets to stall the progress of Qalandars. Khalid Usman provided the much-needed late impetus with a quickfire 19 of 11 deliveries to propel them to a score of 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Arya: The match seemed to be done and dusted when Hafeez was dismissed but speedster Shaheen Afridi had other ideas. He kept swinging across the line and kept connecting one after the other. He smoked four sixes en route to his knock of an unbeaten 39 of 20 deliveries which eventually helped Qalandars tie the game.

It was a special over from Wahab Riaz in the super over to restrict the Qalandars to just 5 runs and in the chase it a couple of boundaries of consecutive balls from Shoaib Malik which sealed the deal for the Peshwar Zalmi. The match had all the excitement but eventually, the team who played the better cricket for the majority of the game comes out triumphant.
Arya: Lahore Qalandars needed to get off to a good start but it proved to be the worst possible start for them as they lost Fakhar Zaman to Shoaib Malik in the very first delivery of the innings. However, there was a good partnership between Philip Salt and Kamran Ghulam who both got off to brisk starts to get their side off to 37 in less than four overs before the dismissal of Salt.

Kamran Ghulam and Harry Brook were also dismissed in quick time as things started becoming quite difficult for the Qalandars. Sohail Akhtar after scoring a run a ball 19 had to perish as the Qalandars were reduced to 88/5. However, with Mohammad Hafeez at the crease, things could have gone either way.

The run-chase seemed to fade away after the loss of David Wiese’s wicket. With the required rate going over 12, Mohammad Hafeez needed something to bring out of his professor’s hat. However, who would have thought that the game-changer would be someone who has hardly done anything substantial with the bat in his career so far.

An easy victory for the Peshwar Zalmi in the super over. Shoaib Malik struck two fine boundaries to take his side over the finishing line. A well-deserved win in the end. The match had everything and in the end, it was an extraordinary over from Wahab Riaz in the super over which sealed the deal for his side.
0.2 S Afridi to S Malik
4 And it's all over! All of the drama finally comes to an end! Afridi throws in a yorker but it's drifting down. Malik helps it on its way for another four behind the wickets! Afridi, the hero of the final over in their chase, has bowled too poor balls in the Super Over to gift the game to the Zalmi.
