Time for us to wrap up our coverage from the inaugural match of the Global Super League 2026. Lahore Qalandars have defeated Perth Scorchers XI by 16-runs and they have got to a good start in the tournament. Scorchers XI struggled a lot as the condition was a little bit tricky for most of their players. They will try to sort it out before their next outing against San Francisco Unicorns on Sunday. Lahore Qalandars will come again to lock horns with Desert Vipers tomorrow and their target will be to not let the momentum slip.
We have another game lined up later in the day. Guyana Amazon Warriors will face San Francisco Unicorns in the evening game. The first ball will be bowled at 4:30 AM IST and 7:30 PM Local Time.

Michael Bracewell (Lahore Qalandars Captain): "(Your initial reflections on the game) Fantastic start for us. Always nice to win. We got some runs as Shayan batted nicely. Then Farhan added some impetus through the middle and it was exciting to see.
(Defining aspects of success with the bat) There were such strong options. They are used to these conditions and practiced hard for two days. We never thought of not taking a bowler on and they did the most of the match-ups they got.
(On the bowling combination) Bowlers did really well. We came here with energy and purpose. Imran at the top was magnificient and he got the crucial wicket of Usman Khan. Probably changed the game. I am happy with the way we played. A pretty polished performance and a pretty exciting one.
(On the pitch) I do not think so. A standard wicket here in Guyana. Probably it was a little better than what we got in the ODIs. It was nice to get a good score on the board and defend it."

(You and Ashton Agar were brilliant with catches) Yes it is something on which we worked hard. We can do it to support the bowlers. That is one part of the job we have ticked. We have to focus on our batting and bowling moving forward in this competition.
(Majority of wickets went to your seamers. Do you expect more penetration from your spin options?) Definitely. We brought two seamers and naturally we are going to have a large part of our bowling innings to be bowled by spinners as the wickets will be dry. They will play a big part.
(What will be your chat with your batters regarding the finishing?) I mean conditions were not easy. Little bit of spin, reverse swing and we should try scoring more runs in the front end. Trying to capitalize on that hard ball early in the innings would have helped us."

Farhan Yousaf (Player of the Match): "I looked to assess the conditions, assess the pitch. It was a good total on this pitch; the director of the team gave me a lot of confidence for the first match. First time playing in the league. It was a very good experience.
(On his mindset) It was simple. All the seniors and the team management told me to keep it very simple. It's not that I see the scoreboard; I see the conditions and set my own goal, which is 160-170, which we achieved.
(On playing an integral part in the win) As a team, all the guys played very well. Might have been hard, but all the players put in a hundred percent and it's good for us going into the next matches."

10:58 PM IST and 1:28 PM Local Time: Lahore Qalandars have started their GSL 2026 campaign with a 16-run victory against the Perth Scorchers XI. The tone was set by Shayan Jahangir in the first innings and Farhan Yousaf's blitzkrieg propelled the Qalandars to an above par score. Then their spinners took the onus and got the job done successfully.
Lahore Qalandars were asked to bat first as their skipper Michael Bracewell lost the toss. Shayan Jahangir was the only one who got going. Shamyl Hussain was the victim of Brody Couch and the latter bowled at over 140 kmph in tandem to restrict Abdullah Shafique in his second over to bowl a maiden over. Abdullah Shafique played 16 balls to score just 12 and Parvez Hossain Emon struggled for 9 balls to score just 3. Jahangir hit Ashton Agar for a couple of maximums in the fourth over and that gave him the momentum. He got boundaries in regular intervals and was dismissed by Jhye Richardson for 65 off 45 balls.
Farhan Yousaf took the baton after his senior set the stage. D'Arcy Short was trusted by Ashton Turner for another over as he got the better of Parvez Hossain Emon. Yousaf hit two maximums in the 16th over and took on Brody Couch in the 18th over. In the penultimate over, he hit Akeal Hosein for a couple of maximums to get to his fifty in 21 balls. His cameo was terminated by Jhye Richardson in the final over and Qalandars ended with 171/7 on the board.
For the Perth Scorchers XI, Jhye Richardson had a jittery start in the powerplay as he gave 24 runs away in his 2 overs but he redeemed well in the later spell and finished with 3/37. Brody Couch, in contrast was brilliant with the ball but got hit in the later spells to end with 2/29. Ashton Agar and D'Arcy Short picked up a wicket each.
Coming to chase the 172-run target, Perth Scorchers XI got off to a steady start as they scored 15 runs from the first two overs. Their momentum was halted by Imran Randhawa as he got the better of D'Arcy Short. But Andre Fletcher was in no mood to spare anyone. He used his feet adroitly to manufacture room and found boundaries. He hit 7 boundaries in his 22-ball stay to score 35. Michael Bracewell walked up to Ali Shabbir after his bowler was all at sea against Fletcher and in the next ball, a pace-on delivery rushed Spiceman for a pull and he mistimed to offer Bracewell a simple catch. Scorchers XI were 48/2 after the end of the powerplay.
Lahore Qalandars' spinners then focused on cramping Joel Curtis for the singles and the keeper-batter played a scratchy knock of 14 off 19 balls. Bracewell got the better of him in the 11th over and just six balls later, Usama Mir's classical leg-break clipped the top of Ashton Turner's off stump. Usman Khan was batting well but the asking rate climbed up to over 10 runs per over made things tough for him. He hit 3 boundaries and a couple of maximums to score 41 off 32 balls before Randhawa's yorker castled him. Forrester did not show the batting flare we are familiar with and scored 23 off 21. Akeal Hosein remained unbeaten on 10 off 4 hitting a maximum in the final over but his team fell 16 runs short of the target.
