Jos Buttler(Lancashire Lightning): " Yeah, I am delighted but we need to work on a few areas. Yeah, it wasn't a straightforward chase at the start they bowled well at the start. Daryl Mitchell showed great composure and build a partnership with Liam and took us over the line. Yeah, getting better, I didn't feel I was at my best but sometimes we need to just scrap it and just contribute as it is a team game.
Yeah, Croft is a great player for Lancashire and he has been performing well for us. Yeah, when you have good players behind in the lineup it gives us freedom at the top to go hard. It is great to get a win, we spoke before the game that we are gonna lose the games but we need to play the Lancashire-type game, like never give up. It's a long competition we need to just get on the top two. "
12:25 AM IST: Daryl Mitchell finishes things off in style as Lancashire gets a much-needed morale boosting 4-wicket win over North Group league leaders Worcestershire to come back in the competition. We have had a terrific game of cricket where the pendulum swung to an fro and Lancashire held their nerves to win the game in the end.
Chasing a stiff target of 178 for the win, Lancashire lost Phil Salt early in the chase. Wells also could not muster much. But it was Jos Buttler who held the innings together with his 58 off 42 balls as he kept Lancashire in the chase. He was ably supported by Steven Croft who scored 40 off 31 balls before being run-out. Thereafter, skipper Liam Livingstone played a quick cameo of 23 off 12 balls to tilt the match in favour of the home team. Daryl Mitchell stayed till the end and played the role of a finisher as his unbeaten 33* off 14 balls helped Lancashire get over the line with 3 balls left and 4 wickets in hand. 14 extras were given by the fielding side.
Young Pennington bowled well as he picked up a couple of wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Brown picked up a couple of wickets but went for 52 runs in 3.3 overs. A wicket to Adam Finch as well. Mitchell Santner despite going wicketless kept things under check giving away only 27 runs in 4 overs.
Earlier in the game, Worcestershire were put into bat by Lancashire. Brett D'Oliveira scored 17 off 12 balls while Michael Bracewell scored 11. Haynes scored a quickfire 19 off 12 balls. Adam Hose played well for his 42 off 29 balls while it was the Mitchell Santner show as his powerful 57 off 33 balls powered the innings forward. The visitors lost their way towards the end and finished below 180 thanks to excellent death bowling by the Lancashire bowlers. As many as 18 extras were given by the fielding side.
Daryl Mitchell was the pick of the bowlers in the end for Lancashire as he bowled 2 overs at the death and picked up 3 wickets for 9 runs in 2 overs. A couple of wickets for Colin de Grandhomme who went the distance. A wicket apiece for Luke Wood (1/18 in 4 overs), Tom Hartley (1/11 in 2 overs), and Luke Wells (1/29 in 4 overs). They bowled really well at the death overs especially the last two overs where they gave away only 8 runs and picked up 4 wickets and that turned out to be the game changer in this close contest.
So, Lancashire wins this game by 4 wickets with 3 balls to spare to get their campaign back on track.
