That’s all we have for you from our coverage here at the Kennington Oval. A thumping victory for Surrey over Lancashire to kickstart their campaign in style. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off alongside my scorer Danish Elahi. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
1:59 AM IST & 9:29 PM Local Time: End of the game! James Anderson did not come out to bat due to an injury concern and that officially brought the contest to a close. A commanding all-round performance from Surrey as they seal a thumping 59-run victory at home over Lancashire.

Earlier in the evening, Lancashire opted to field first at the Kennington Oval. Surrey got off to a flying start with Jason Roy tearing into the bowling attack from the outset. Roy dominated the Powerplay with a series of crisp boundaries and raced to 45 off just 19 balls before Chris Green dismissed him in the final over of the field restrictions. Surrey finished the Powerplay strongly at 60/1. Ollie Pope and Adam Thomas then carried the momentum forward with an enterprising 51-run partnership before James Anderson broke the stand by removing Thomas for 32. Lancashire fought back brilliantly through the middle overs, striking regularly and pulling things back from 106/1 to 147/5 with Keaton Jennings rotating his bowlers smartly.

Just when Surrey looked in danger of losing momentum, the Curran brothers turned the tide once again with a blistering counterattack. Sam Curran took on the bowlers initially before Tom Curran joined the charge, and together they added a rapid 35 runs off just 18 deliveries. Sam Curran contributed a valuable 32 off 22 balls before falling, while Tom Curran produced a sensational late cameo, remaining unbeaten on 49 off only 20 deliveries. His explosive finishing effort powered Surrey beyond the 200-run mark as they closed on a formidable 213/6 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Reece Topley came out breathing fire with the new ball and completely rattled Lancashire in the opening over itself. He removed Keaton Jennings and Matthew Hurst for ducks to give Surrey the dream start with the ball. Ben McDermott soon followed after scoring 12, while Michael Jones also departed for 12. Joe Moores managed 15 before falling as Lancashire lost half their side for just 49 runs and were staring at a heavy defeat.

Just when things looked bleak, Chris Green and Paul Coughlin stitched together a fighting 62-run stand for the sixth wicket to drag Lancashire past the 100-run mark. However, the asking rate kept climbing rapidly and the pressure eventually got to the visitors. Coughlin played a spirited knock of 37 off 24 balls before being dismissed, while Green, despite struggling with cramps, battled hard for his 35 off 25 deliveries. Jack Blatherwick remained unbeaten on 19 off 11 balls, but Surrey cleaned up the tail quickly thereafter.

Lancashire finished on 154/9, with James Anderson not coming out to bat after walking off injured during the first innings
. Lancashire were bundled out for 154 in 16.1 overs. Yousef Majid was the standout bowler for Surrey with figures of 3/42 as the hosts sealed a dominant 59-run victory in their opening game of the season.

In fact, that will be the end of the game! Sir James Anderson, who had earlier walked off the field during the first innings, seemingly due to an injury concern, will not come out to bat. That officially brings the contest to a close as Surrey wrap up a dominant victory.
16.1 Jordan Clark to Saqib Mahmood
W GONEEE!! Wickets continue to fall in clusters for Lancashire. Short of a good length around fourth stump. Mahmood backs away for room and looks to pump it over the top of mid off. He chips it from the splice of his blade. Sam Curran takes a simple catch at mid off.
Yousef Majid ends with figures of 3/42. Lancashire need 60 runs off 24 balls.
