That brings us to the close of our live coverage of this Legends League Cricket match between the Konark Suryas Odisha and Southern Super Stars. For now, it's Soumarya Dutta signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Hiren and our Scorer/Analyst Paras Yadav. See you soon!
Shreevats Goswami (Southern Super Stars Captain) " The bowlers were brilliant. We gave away 91 runs in the powerplay and we pulled it back really well. We have some many options and it's the luxury I have as a captain. We had few plans and we executed them well. Monu and Subodh bowled well. Kedar Jadhav sneaked in one over. Once Levi was out, they didn't have much from the other batters. He( Martin Guptill) was a late pick and we were really happy to have him in the team. I have played with him before and he just set the league on fire. We have won five out of five so can't ask for anything else. "
Martin Guptill (Legend of the Match): "Yeah, I think it was only 2 overs where I felt I was hitting it clean. I was just targeting the overs and bowlers accordingly. It is certainly tough to bat in this weather. Hopefully, the heat will be less in Jammu. Thank you."
Legend of the Match: Martin Guptill
Welcome to the post match presentations.
Irfan Pathan(Konark Suryas Odisha Captain)- "We kept losing wickets at the wrong time! I take the responsibility for that as I didn't score enough. Richard Levi was superb early on. We lost it in the final over of the powerplay where Guptill picked up 34 runs. The pitch is really good here and the margin of error here was very little. Vinay and Ben bowled well and the spinners did have a few chances. But it didn't work out well in the end. It was good to have prolonged rest. We have a few back to back games and hopefully we can win two out of our next three."
22:23 IST & Local Time | Southern Superstars win by 8 wickets. It was the Martin Guptill show tonight in Surat. The Stars have now won 5 out 5 and remain on top of the points table. Konark Suryas Odisha face their first defeat of the season. The Stars are almost through to the playoffs now with this win.
Opting to bowl first, the Stars were taken to cleaners in the powerplay and were expensive. They did pretty well to pull back things in the backend and restrict the Konark Suryas Odisha below the 200 mark. Subodh Bhati and Chathuranga de Silva were the pick of the bowlers for them and picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
With the bat, KSO started brilliantly in the powerplay with Richard Levi looking in full flow but they kept losing wickets in the end and could not get a strong finish. Levi was brilliant at the top and scored 63 off just 21 balls. Yusuf Pathan was also decent in the middle order and scored 33 off 22 balls.
Coming to the chase, the Stars had a power pack batting line-up and they went all guns blazing. They did lose their skipper early but Martin Guptill was rock solid at the other end and kept attacking. He played a blinder of knock and scored 131* off just 54 balls which included 11 maximums. He almost killed the game after his century and chased down the total with 4 overs to spare.
