That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Do switch tabs as the fixture between Pretoria Capitals and Durban Super Giants starts soon. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer Yogesh Kumar. Bye bye.
Faf du Plessis is the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 92.
08:36 PM IST: Thatās it. A solid all-around effort from the Joburg Super Kings sees them beat the Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 24 runs.A complete performance from the Super Kings in front of their home crowd at the āBullringā and with this win, they qualify for the semi-finals. The Sunrisers, meanwhile, have to wait and hope that the other results go their way for them to qualify for the knockout stages.
Chasing 161 was a tricky task on this surface. The Sunrisers didnāt have the best of starts as Maheesh Theekshana cleaned up Adam Rossington in the second over on one. Gerald Coetzee picked up two wickets in his very first over as the Super Kings reduced the Sunrisers to 29/3 at the end of the powerplay. Temba Bavuma was joined by Aiden Markram and both started the recovery work.
Bavuma was looking in fine touch and he brought up his fifty but fell soon. His departure resulted in a collapse. Markram was dismissed on 34 and the lower-order batters failed to contribute. Eventually, the Sunrisers finished their innings on 136/9 to lose the game by 24 runs. Kyle Simmonds was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Kings. He picked up three wickets, giving away only 23 runs in his four overs. Theekshana, Coetzee and Romario Shepherd also chipped in with a couple of scalps each as they defended the total successfully.
Earlier, the Super Kings decided to bat first. They got off to a fantastic start, thanks to their captain Faf du Plessis. He took on the Sunrisersā bowlers upfront and they scored 48 at the end of the powerplay. His opening partner Reeza Hendricks played the role of a second fiddle perfectly as they kept the scoreboard ticking.
The Sunrisers managed to break the 119-run opening stand in the 15th over when Hendricks departed on 40. It allowed them to pull back things. They kept picking wickets at regular intervals. The Super Kingsā batters failed to adapt to the conditions and du Plessis was the lone fighter with the bat. He played some scintillating strokes but fell eight short of a well-deserved ton. They failed to finish with a flourish as they ended their innings on 160/6. Sisanda Magala and Markram picked up two wickets each for the Sunrisers.
