That's it from the coverage of the opener of SA20 2024 which ends in a No Result due to rain. We will be back tomorrow with more cricketing actions across the globe and across formats. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit alongside scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
11:49 PM IST, 8:19 PM Local Time: So, the players shake hands and match has been abandoned for the night. Both teams share the spoils at St. George's Park. Unfortunate, but one cannot control the nature at the end of the day.
11:36 PM IST, 8:06 PM Local Time: The rain has slowed down giving the groundsmen an opportunity to do some clean up job. The umpires are having a word with the head of groundstaff. Rain has eased into a drizzle and hasn't completely stopped yet. Just as I finish that update, the rain has picked up... AGAINNNN!!!!! The umbrellas go up once more.
11:21 PM IST, 7:51 PM Local Time: There will be a next official update at 8PM Local Time, 11:30 PM IST.
11:13 PM IST, 7:43 PM Local Time: The umpires have finished their 10-minute long walk of the ground. It is still raining, the officials had a word with the head of the groundstaff. Covers are firmly in place. Both the teams are patiently seated in their respective pavilions.
11 PM IST, 7:30 PM Local Time: The rain has picked up again, more covers are being brought to cover the bowler's run-up area on both ends. The latest a 5-over per side fixture can kick start is 8:51 PM Local and 12:21 AM India time.
10:49 PM IST, 7:19 PM Local Time: The rain is back and so are the covers on the square! The umbrellas are opened again in the stands and in the ground. The wait continues.
10:30 PM IST, 7 PM Local Time: The sun is popping out between the clouds, it is getting slightly brighter. The covers are firm at the square with some members of the groundstaff trying to remove the puddles formed. Some Sunrisers Eastern Cape players can be seen warming up with a football. A couple of umbrellas are out on the ground which indicates it may be still drizzling. Not as heavy a downpour that we have witnessed all day.
