For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and the scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Have a good day.
Now, we have another encounter lined up in just more than two hours time. Two teams of group B, Malaysia and Oman will be locking horns at the same venue, Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin. Malaysia have already qualified for the quarter final and the game is only relevant for Oman. They will have to topple Malaysia by a massive margin to go past Hong Kong in net run rate. First ball will be bowled at 10:30 AM IST and 2 PM Local Time. Do join us for the game. Hope the rain stays away. Fingers crossed.
Persistent rain has made this encounter a damp squib. Both Japan and Nepal have got one point each as the match is called off. Now, Nepal have qualified for the quarter final of Asian Games Men's T20 2026. Japan have only one point in their two games and are eliminated. Afghanistan are second in the points table of group A with 2 points from 2 games.
8:11 AM IST and 11:41 AM Local Time: The weather gods were not too kind to us. After the first innings, rain intervened and the drizzle persisted. The game could not be resumed and the match officials decided to call it off. Let us have a quick recap of what happened in the first innings.
Just before the start of the fixture, rain got heavier and it delayed the game for an hour. Eventually it was a curtailed game with 15 overs per side. Japan won the toss and opted to field first. Nepal were off to a scratchy start as Kushal Bhurtel struggled for 12 balls to score just 4 and Nepal could score only 10 in the first three overs. But Sundeep Jora, the number three batter, launched an onslaught against the Japan spin attack to give some momentum to his side. He and Aasif Sheikh added 55 runs in just 27 legal deliveries. Aasif fell scoring 21 and Nepal lost Kushal Malla (2) and Gulshan Jha (2) for low scores. Jora was then joined by Lokesh Bam and they added an unbeaten 65 runs for the fifth wicket in just 30 balls. Lokesh took only 22 balls to score his fifty (53*) and Jora played 32 balls to score 57*. Nepal finished with 149/4 in their 15 overs.
For Japan, Reo Sakurano Thomas (1/7), Ibrahim Takahashi (1/40), Jake Kusuda-Nairn (1/18) and Declan Suzuki Mccomb (1/19) got their names into the wickets column.
8:10 AM IST and 11:40 AM Local Time: Rain has the last laugh! Due to persistent drizzle, this game has been called off.
7:47 AM IST and 11:17 AM Local Time: As soon as the first innings came to completion, the ground staff are rushing in with covers to protect the center wicket. Rain has intensified and we are in for a delay again.
7:44 AM IST, 11:14 AM Local Time: End of the innings. On the back of scintillating fifties from Sundeep Jora and Lokesh Bahadur Bam, Nepal post 149/4 on the board in a rain-curtailed fixture of 15 overs per side. Japan's bowlers had a tough outing as they went on a journey and now have a monumental task ahead of them. As the players walk off the field, the groundsmen bring in the covers as it's raining heavily now.
Nepal were asked to bat first in a rain-curtailed fixture. They lost Kushal Bhurtel cheaply on four in the third over. Japan bowled beautifully with the new ball but Sundeep Jora at three counter-attacked brilliantly. He played some scintillating strokes and helped his side gain the momentum.
Aasif Sheikh at the other end scored 21 off 15 before falling in the seventh over. In the next, Kushal Malla was sent packing cheaply on two. Jora kept going strong but kept losing partners as Gulshan Jha (2) failed to make an impact with the bat.
Jora brought up a fine fifty off just 28 balls. Lokesh Bahadur Bam came out all guns blazing at number six and provided a perfect finish to the innings along with Jora. It was a proper onslaught from Lokesh as he brought up his fifty in just 22 balls. He remained unbeaten on 53 (22) along with Jora (57* off 32) as Nepal finished their innings on 149/4.
For Japan, Reo Sakurano-Thomas (1/7), Ibrahim Takahashi (1/40), Jake Kusuda-Nairn (1/18) and Declan Suzuki Mccomb (1/19) picked up a wicket apiece. They failed to keep a check on the scoring rate and now their batters will have to bat out of their skin to chase down this mammoth total. Stay tuned as we will be back with the chase, once it resumes.
