Wanindu Hasaranga took over the captaincy duties for Royals and opted to bowl first. Kamil Mishara top scored with 49, Chamindu Wickramasinghe hit 43 off just 15 and there were notable contributions from Avishka Fernando (36 off 22) and Shakib Al Hasan (22* off 16) as the Kings posted 221/6. Wanindu Hasaranga (2/37), Moeen Ali (2/38) and Zahir Khan (1/30) sharing 5 wickets between them.
Lahiru Udara (30 off 15) and Pawan Sandesh (48 off 21) started off brilliantly to add 41 runs in just 3.4 overs before Udara was cleaned up by Shakib Al Hasan. Kusal Perera replacing Angelo Mathews in the lineup hit 16 off 10 and added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket with Sandesh.
Zahoor Khan, Madushanka and Dunith Welllage struck with some key wickets in the middle overs. Shakib Al Hasan joined in the fun with 3 wickets but leaked 20 runs in his final over before dismissing Wanindu Hasaranga for 24 off 12. Needing 22 runs off the final over with just one wicket in hand, Vijay Shankar played out a maiden over and lost his wicket off the final delivery to Madushanka who finished with 2/36.
