Milestone
So, that is it from me, Karthik Raj and my co-commentators, Arijit and Vikhyat. Do join OneCricket's live coverage of what should be an exciting play-off stage.
Shadab Khan: It was his (Wasim) effort that has paid dividends. He wanted to prove himself and I just backed him, making things simple for him. The way we came back with the ball in the final 10 overs was commendable, as was our batting in the first 10 overs. Yes, we need to iron out the lapses as we can't afford those in pressure games. They are a tough team, they are in good form and it's about who handles pressure better. We'll try to ensure that we do the simple things right.
Mohammad Wasim: It's a great achievement for me to perform well on such a grand stage. Captain was motivating me all the time and helping me to plan things. I want to donate this prize money to charity so that it can be of some help to the poor people.
Mohammad Wasim Jr has been named as the 'Player of the Match' for his four-wicket haul
Mohammad Rizwan: Happy with the effort and we kept fighting till the end and that's the kind of quality we expect from the team. We wanted to continue the momentum from the start and that's why we went hard despite wickets falling. We have to improve a little on our fielding, but the other areas are well-rounded and hopefully we can beat them in the next game.
Time for the Post-match Presentation
Iftikhar Ahmed got off strike on the first delivery itself but Blessing gave some hope by removing Hussain off the next ball. Eventually, Iftikhar kept his nerve to take Islamabad home with two balls to spare.
Just like the innings had went by earlier, Asif Ali came in and struck a few big shots to keep Islamabad United afloat while Hussain Talat kept another end tight. Asif Ali's impressive cameo was brought to an end by Usman Qadir. The leggie went onto castle Brandon King's stumps too as Multan started to drag this match deep into the death overs. Only eight runs were required off the final two overs but Shahnawaz Dhani bowled brilliantly to keep four runs for Blessing Muzarabani's final six balls.
Akhaq, in particular, went for his shots as he made 26 off 15 balls before getting out off Shahnawaz Dhani's bowling. However, the wicket did nothing to stop Islamabad United's momentum as skipper Shadab Khan looked in good touch and helped the team finish the Powerplay with 54 runs on the board. In the seventh over, Dhani removed Umar Amin via a stunning catch from Mohammad Rizwan. After looking good for a while, Shadab also started to struggle due to the heat. Eventually, Multan Sultans' emerging player Mohammad Umar trapped Shadab in front in the 12th over.
It is an anti-climatic end as Islamabad United seal the victory with two balls to spare. The players had already seen the replay and fist-pumped when the third umpire was going through his process. Islamabad United round off a terrific group stage campaign as they finish top of the pile with with eight wins from ten matches. The target of 150 was never going to be enough against a strong Islamabad United line-up. The newly combined opening combo of Muhammad Akhlaq and Umar Amin started well for the two-time champions.
