That wraps up our coverage of this game. The second game of double-header Saturday isn't too far. South Africa Women take on Australia Women here at the same venue. Do switch tabs to follow our coverage. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey, AkshayaKrishna Polya, scorer Zeeshan Naiyer and statistician Aman.
Kathryn Bryce (Scotland Women Captain): “[On their turnaround after last appearance in T20 WC] The temperature helped a bit as well. 45 degrees didn’t help that time. We had a good preparation in the last few weeks. We had good warm-up games as well.

[Thoughts on that total] It was a good total. At the halfway point, we thought we left a few runs. But our bowling and fielding was outstanding.

[On the upcoming games] I think we have got a lot of big games coming up. Just taking as they come."
Gaby Lewis (Ireland Women Captain): “[Where did it go wrong while bowling?] In that middle period. We got a good start but Scotland played really well in the middle period. Hats off to them.

[Where did they falter while chasing?] It's hard to pinpoint a certain period. But at the mid innings, we had a great finish with the ball. The momentum was with us. I guess if we had a better powerplay. It’s hard to put a finger on a certain period. But we will go back to the drawing board.

[Things to improve] It’s a long tournament. Still four more games. We can certainly put a fight and sit together and come back stronger."
Best Bowling Figures for Scotland in Women’s T20 WCs:

3/13 – Saskia Horley vs Bangladesh, Sharjah, 2024

3/16 – Kirstie Gordon vs Ireland, Manchester, 2026, Today*

3/18 – Katherine Fraser vs Ireland, Manchester, 2026, Today*
Kathryn Bryce (Player of the Match): "[Emotions after this win] Lots of emotions. At the moment, it's outstanding. Looking at the crowd, it's a massive support for both sides and a big thank you to all the fans for coming out here and supporting us.

[On her partnership with Sarah] I think we got strong options and we ran very well. The outfield was slow. The way Sarah attacked in the middle period, it made life easier for me.

[On her knock] It was pleased to go out there and do that today. I just wanted to put in that kind of performance for the team.

[A message to the fans] Just a massive thank you. They support us throughout the game. There are a lot of green flags as well. Just a massive thank you for all of them."

6:04 PM IST, 1:34 PM Local Time: That's it. Scotland script history as they grab their maiden win in Women's T20 World Cups. They beat Ireland by 40 runs to start their campaign with a win. A convincing victory for the Scottish Women and they beat their rivals in their first-ever T20 World Cup meeting.

Chasing 162 was always going to be a stiff task. Ireland lost Alana Dalzell (6) cheaply in the very first over. Skipper Gaby Lewis at three looked scratchy before getting stumped on 11 in the eighth over. Amy Hunter at the top of the order looked good for her 39 before she was cleaned up. It led to a mini-collapse.

Kirstie Gordon dismissed Rebecca Stokell (2), Leah Paul (0) and Alice Tector (0) in a single over. Orla Prendergast kept fighting for the Irish side. She scored 33 off 23 before getting run out in the 17th over. Scotland wrapped up the Irish tail to knock them over on 121 in 19.1 overs to win the game comprehensively by 40 runs. For Scotland, Kirstie Gordon (3/16) and Katherine Fraser (3/19) grabbed three wickets each.

Earlier, Scotland were asked to bat first and they lost both their openers in Katherine Fraser (15) and Darcey Carter (14) inside the powerplay. Skipper Kathryn Bryce was joined by her sister Sarah Bryce and both built a solid partnership. Both scored at a brisk rate and the Irish side looked clueless on the field.

The Bryce sisters stitched a brilliant 106-run stand which came to an end in the 17th over when Sarah fell one short of her fifty. Kathryn played a fine knock of 60 off 39 before falling in the 19th over. Her knock helped Scotland post 161/5 on the board. For Ireland, Ava Canning was the standout bowler, registering figures of 3/27. The batters then succumbed to the pressure and fell short by 40 runs.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentation.
