20.32 IST: Netherlands Women suffered a humiliating loss of 8 wickets here. Moreover, Ireland Women clean swept them by 3-0. They never looked in the contest right from the start of the match rather we should say from the start of the series they never looked like a competitive team. However, they might have learned plenty of lessons with this series loss.
In the final ODI of the three-match series, Netherlands decided to bat first after winning the toss but lost their four wickets just on the score of 29. However, the valiant knock of skipper Babette de Leede (78) and an excellent unbeaten knock of 47 from Frederique Overdijk helped them to put the score of 185 on the board.
Fans might be expecting their bowlers to possess some fight in this dead rubber but the opening duo of Ireland shattered their bleak hopes too. Leah Paul (27) and Gaby Lewis (92) added 73 runs for the opening stand before Paul was done by Cd Lange. However, after that, the duo of Lewis and Amy Hunter who came to bat at number three started taking on their bowlers and made this chase a cakewalk. Just before they were smelling a triumph, Lewis got out just 8 runs short of her hundred. Skipper Laura Delany (4*) and Hunter (53*) did the honours for them and they made a strong statement by winning this series quite comfortably. For Ireland, de Lange and Overdijk were the ones who got a wicket each.
