For now, this is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues AkshayaKrishna Polya, Darpan Tikiya, Paras Yadav and Aman. To follow more cricketing action from around the world, keep following CREX. Goodnight and goodbye!
India's next assignment will only get tougher as the Men in Blue travel to New Zealand for an all-format tour. The tour kicks off in five days' time, with the first of the five-match T20I series scheduled for Thursday, October 22. The T20Is will be followed by a five-match ODI series and then a two-Test series to round off the tour.
So, the six-hitting contest ends 2-2 between India and the West Indies. This series saw over 100 maximums hit across the 4.5 games we witnessed. Neither team deserved to lose, and it was fitting that the trophy was shared in the end. Shai Hope led the way for the Windies, while India had different heroes emerging in each win.

Both captains, Shai Hope and Shreyas Iyer, pose with the trophy alongside BCCI treasurer Raghuram Bhatt. Fittingly, the series ends in a 2-2 draw after rain washes out the final T20I in Bengaluru.
Shreyas Iyer [India Captain]: "[2-2, fair representation, you think, or do you think maybe it could have been a bit different? How do you see 2-2?] Well, it could have definitely been different considering if we had bowled well in the second and the fourth game. Obviously, batting has been sensational throughout. It's about that execution, which we were falling short on, especially our bowlers taking the ball and also, you know, credit where it's due, they batted phenomenally well. And also, Shai Hope, brilliant performance by him, the way he was cruising through in the series. It was difficult at times, but kudos to him.

[I asked Shai Hope about the positives for the West Indies. From your point of view, it wasn't easy. You flew in straight from Japan into the series, time difference. You said at that time you didn't know where you were. So what for you were the pluses from this series?]
I think the ability to bounce back even after a loss. We had this mindset that we want to get and play aggressive cricket and see to it that we are at the top of our game. And we replicated that in some instances, but we weren't able to repeat it and be consistent throughout. But it's a great learning experience and there are a lot of positives as well. Even today, the way we went about our batting was outstanding, and I hope that we keep repeating that. It's going to be a challenging series in New Zealand now.

[It is. I'll get there literally just now. Naman Dhir coming in just tells you the strength of the Indian system. So I'm sure you're delighted for him. What are the conversations you've been having with someone like young Vaibhav, for example? You're a seasoned player, you're a leader, and you've got to tell a young kid, maybe tomorrow. What's the conversation you have with him?] So I just keep telling him [Vaibhav Sooryavanshi], you'll get your opportunity. You see, there are two batters [Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson] who have probably won the — not probably, they have won the World Cup for you, and they've been consistent with the run-scoring as well. So, you know, if you're consistent with your processes and your mindset is a bit light, don't think too much about getting an opportunity right now. I know what must be going on in his mind, especially after a phenomenal IPL season. But you have to wait sometimes, and we've got two fantastic openers who have been consistent throughout. And yeah, that's the interaction I've basically had with him right from the Afghanistan series.

[You know a thing or two about waiting. Bhuvi knows a thing or two about waiting, but it's been good to see him play again. Now, travel again. You seem to be very good at just packing, unpacking, and going straight into games] Yes, it's just like another day. We've been used to it, even constantly travelling in India. It's definitely not easy to recover and see to it that your routines are intact. But honestly speaking, we've been doing that pretty well, and we are adjusting to the conditions pretty fast. So as long as we are maintaining this consistently, it's good for the team."
Shai Hope [West Indies Captain]: "[How much luggage do you have to take all these trophies you won back?] Not enough at this point.

[It's not a bad thing, is it?] I guess not.

[A fifth of a series win – how much did that excite you?]
We're very close. Something that we haven't done in so many years. I think it's 20-plus years or so. I'm not sure of the exact number. But to get this far in a series, give ourselves a good chance; it obviously shows what we're doing as a unit. We're certainly progressing. The success doesn't necessarily have to be series wins, but just seeing the way the guys have been progressing as a team is very commendable.

[Let's talk about your performance as we go along. What were the other positives for you in this T20 series?] Quite a few. Especially from the bowling front. We talk about guys executing their skills in pressure situations. We saw Shamar come in and play. Shamar Springer is coming in and playing that crucial role for us in the back end.  Getting some good wickets, bowling those death overs. Keemo Paul, similarly. And then you still had Roston, who has been consistent for us with the ball for so many years.

[Roston Chase didn't bowl tonight?] Yeah, just one of those things again. If Tilak was on strike for that over, what Motie bowled his second one, I'd probably give it to Roston. But yeah, just how it goes sometimes. But I just feel the way how we played cricket in general, everyone was chipping in at certain stages. Sherfane continued to do what he does in the T20 format. Like I said, very pleasing from the bowling side of things to see the guys executing a lot.

[I was going to ask you about your bowling plans because we saw them evolve as it was going along. So well done on that. Your own performance – now talk just a little bit about your own performance. Was there a sense of invincibility, that you're going out there and you're going to score runs?] I still have to have that self-belief. Honestly, whenever I cross the line, even if I haven't got any runs in the last two, three, four, five innings, I still believe I can get the job done. I think that's what kind of keeps me going, keeps me grounded as well, knowing that even if I do score 100 or get a big score, the next game I still have to start from scratch. So my process never changes. I try to stay as neutral as I possibly can and just back my ability. And, as I said, back my ability to get the job done because I prepare, I think, well enough, so just allow that to happen, and hopefully when the execution comes, it goes in my favour.

[The West Indies have always been very popular visitors to our lands, and your team did nothing to change that reputation. So well done and thank you] Thank you very much."
