Rohit Sharma | Winning Captain:"That is what I wanted to clarify, the team that was known for its ability to chase has changed, a lot of players that were a part of the squad are not here. For us, as a team, whether we bat first or chase, it is a challenge in both departments. We wanted to bat first as well as chase, as a team we want to improve in all departments. Our middle order is relatively new so we wanted to tick all our boxes. Happy with the results, we got what we wanted from the series. Now it is about moving forward as a team and fill those holes that we lack in.
The inexperience in the batting order is the one thing that we spoke about. We understand that we still are a very good chasing team but most of the members are missing from the team which is why with these guys we wanted to understand how they bat under pressure. There are different challenges even if you bat first. As a team, it was important to get what we wanted from this series which is something we saw throughout the series, the middle order bailed us out with the top order failing at multiple times and same happened today. A good sign moving forward for us. Something that we can be proud of.
I remember speaking of the biggest takeaway from the ODI series being the middle order getting an opportunity to bat and make it count. I was very impressed with our seam bowling inn that ODI series. Even here, Avesh (debutant), Harshal(relatively new) and Deepak(in and out of the squad) all three haven't played much for us, the challenge was to give them some game time and now see how they respond and you know a team like West Indies will test your bowling unit. We know they bat very deep, almost till number 10. So it was a good challenge for us. There are few guys missing and we want to make sure that all the guys are fresh which is why we want to keep rotation and try and give guys who are sitting an opportunity as well. We are keeping one eye on the World Cup we want all guys to get enough game time so we can see what they have to offer.
Sri Lanka will be a different challenge but as far as I am concerned I will not look at the opposition but look at what we need to do. Like I said there are a few things we need to work on. The ground fielding and catching are the two areas we want to work on."
Suryakumar Yadav: "Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game after Rohit (Sharma) got out. We plan for these situations in our team meetings. oday worked out well for me I have been planning my game for these situations. I am keeping it simple. I just want to get the job done. Just don't hit the ball too hard."
Suryakumar Yadav is also the Man of the Series.
Suryakumar Yadav is also the Man of the Match for his 65 off just 31 deliveries.
Suryakumar Yadav earns the Hyundai Alcazar Grand Sixes of the Match award.
Harshal Patel gets the Dream 11 Gamechanger of the Series award.
Kieron Pollard | Losing Captain: "We were in the game for 15 overs but gave some 85 runs in the last five. We had a good start with the bat. Nicholas showed his consistency throughout the series. Rovman Powell showed he wants to be there. Fabulous Batsman. Coming to India is always going to be difficult but the way the boys responded was good to see."
It is time for the presentation.
Shardul Thakur: "If I'm doing the job for India as well, I have to look forward to it. I have done it for CSK but it's a much bigger responsibility with India. You have to be ready to use your variations. You are bound to go for runs. One or two boundaries are okay, you have to be mentally tough. It's about the next delivery, which is important. You have to follow your process. The basic idea was to bowl wide yorkers. It doesn't matter what I'm bowling, it has to be according to my field. If the batters hit me in the gap, that's fine. We have to keep sticking with what we're doing."
