For now, this is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Manan Mehta, scorer Sachin Yadav and statistician Aman. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
We will have a one-day break before the Medal Games come up on Saturday, October 3. Bangladesh take on Sri Lanka in the Bronze Medal Match, followed by the biggest game between Pakistan and India for the Gold Medal.
Sri Lankan spinners kept India in check for some part of India's batting innings, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at the start, and Ishan Kishan, batting at number five, in the middle overs and at the death, batted brilliantly for his unbeaten 80 off 46 balls. Jasprit Bumrah set the tone. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar followed suit. Three run-outs in between just didn't help Sri Lanka's cause. Abhishek Sharma wrapped it up. Sri Lanka were bowled out for their lowest T20I total, 45, with the Men in Blue moving into the Gold Medal match against Pakistan.
Axar Patel (India): "[On not giving Sri Lanka a sniff today] I mean, to win one has to do that (laughs). Obviously, we were waiting to get some game time out in the middle. It was raining so we did not get the opportunity to play regularly. Kudos to the team for being so switched on. After a break like that, it is commendable to notch up a performance like that.

[What was the total India had in mind prior to the match for this pitch?] I think that Pakistan and Bangladesh played their game on the same wicket before us. So, looking at that, we felt that 140-150 shall be a winning total for us. So, when we got to 160, we felt we are 10 above par. However, when we came to the ground, we had 140-150 in mind seeing the first game of the day. Once the ball got old, it was drifting a lot more and there was turn and bounce on offer.

[Does he have any idea on which pitch the final will be played?] I am not sure which pitch will be used. There was some talk about that earlier, but nothing is confirmed as of now. The entire square has pitches just like this. 3 of them in total. There are cracks in each one of them, so the nature of the pitch stays the same. It should behave in a similar manner regardless of which pitch we play on.

[What are the food options in Japan like?] That is why we Gujaratis pack theplas (Gujarati food item). Actually, there is an Indian restaurant out here. So, we are packing that food and having. Luckily there are 3-4 good Indian restaurants here and they are making good food. We have to have packed food, but it is good. See, Japan does not have a lot of cricket played. Regardless of that, hosting a tournament like this is commendable. They have done everything they can for us. The grounds are good, the atmosphere is good and they have done everything in their powers to make us feel at home. With time it will only upgrade and get better.

[On his experience in the 'Games Village' with athletes from other sports and the importance of winning the 'Gold medal' in cricket] The experience has been very nice. It is very different. Normally, when we travel to Australia, England with the team, it is a different experience. However, over here with various other games going on around us it very different. Everyone is here for the Asian Games. Seeing every athlete having their own I-card, everyone looks at you from a different perspective. If you are roaming on the streets with an I-card on, people look at you and think, 'He is an athlete.' So, this is a different experience and yes, I think winning the gold is a special thing. We have won World Cups earlier, but when you play for India, I mean, when we play with BCCI, it is also for India, but this feels different. You feel like winning 'Gold' for your country and realise it on every step. It is very important. The way we are playing at the moment, we can win it. It is a great opportunity and personally for me it is a proud moment."
