We lost plenty of overs today and as a result of that, the start of play on Day 3 has been preponed to 9:45 AM IST, Local Time. We shall be here early at 8:45 AM IST, Local Time for the buildup and would love you to be a part of tomorrow's journey with us.

India are in the driver's seat and in all honesty have taken a Sri Lankan win out of the equation. Anything is possible in cricket but with just 3 days left in the match and constant rain-threats looming, it is hard to see how the hosts can make a comeback. They will try though but if things further go wrong, we might see them playing for a draw pretty early in the scheme of things.

5:52 PM IST, Local Time: Bad light stops play and it is Stumps on Day 2! Sri Lanka: 8/2! They trail by 495 runs! A rain-affected day comes to an end on a bitter note. The Sri Lankan players especially Lahiru Udara and Prabath Jayasuriya were furious with the umpires as they felt like they were being forced to play under bad light. They expressed it quite evidently, but unfortunately for them, nothing on the scorecard can change. The two teams will head into Day 3 with India miles ahead for the moment.

India started the day on 300-5. They were rocked early by Asitha Fernando who bounced out debutant Saransh Jain for 6 in the second over of the day. India were in a spot of bother at 307/6! Rishabh Pant walked in to resume his innings that was cut short on Day 1. He played some exquisite strokes right from the onset and gave good company to Dhruv Jurel, who himself had put on a technical masterclass. The pair crossed a 100-run stand as both batters crossed 50s. India went into Lunch being 419/6!

The afternoon session started on the perfect note for the hosts. Rishabh Pant was dismissed on the very first ball by Keshara Nuwantha and the southpaw walked back with 63 next to his name. Dhruv Jurel stayed solid and added 39 with Manav Suther for the 8th wicket before the latter was caught behind for 18. Mohammed Siraj came out and applied a blockathon to help Jurel get closer to a 100. As Jurel reached 95 with a boundary, the heavens opened rather intensely, and we had a 2-hour rain delay. Early Tea was taken and India were 475/8 at that stage.

The final session was filled with drama and more drama. Jurel quickly moved to 99 before spending 12 balls on that score. He finally got to his 2nd Test hundred with a risky single. That freed him and he started to play big shots across the ground. A cover drive boundary from Prasidh Krishna pushed India to 503/9 where they decided to declare. Sri Lanka walked out and just within the two balls of their innings; the players had to rush off as it began to drizzle. The Indian players coaxed the umpires to resume play once it stopped raining. The umpires complied and that angered the hosts.

Lahiru Udara raised the same complaint while batting but the umpires did not budge. He was caught in the slips off Prasidh Krishna's bowling off the very next ball. He trudged off furiously. Nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya walked out and raised the same complaint a couple of times. The light meter was brought out and the umpires told Captain Gill that he will have to bowl spinners. Manav Suthar came on and with his final ball he trapped Jayasuriya in front leaving the batter furious once again. Finally, the umpires complied to the request of the hosts and the wicket ball ended up being the final ball of the day.
