Team Changes:

New Zealand have made 1 change. Blair Tickner replaces Matt Fisher.

India have made 2 changes. Varun Chakaravarthy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar come in for Axar Patel and Mayank Yadav.
India Playing XI: Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy
New Zealand Playing XI: Tim Seifert (wk), Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Bevon-John Jacobs, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Nathan Smith, Adam Milne, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner
Shreyas Iyer (India Captain): "[On getting a chance to put runs on the board] Yeah, I mean it's a great occasion to come here, especially on this historical ground, and we were looking to bat as well.

[You were going to bat because you wanted to put yourselves under a bit of pressure, or just test yourselves?] Absolutely. We wanted to test ourselves batting first. All the four games we chased, so wanted to have a feel of how the wicket will play in the first innings.

[All right, after Auckland, what have you said to your team?] Auckland, again, you know, dimensions were different. Bowlers had a little bit of different plans against certain batsmen, but also credit where it's due, Phillips, he played an exceptional knock. But it's important that we go by instincts and see to it that we bowl according to the plan and also what the wicket requires.

[On team changes] We've got two changes. Varun comes in and Bhuvi comes in. [Nice for Varun to get an opportunity after missing the first four games?] Yes, absolutely. He's been waiting for his opportunity, and today I feel that even in the huddle he gave us a beautiful speech, so he's pumped up and he's looking forward to this contest."
Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain): "I just assumed I'd lose the toss. We will have a bowl. New pitch. Looks alright. There might be a bit of dew later on.

We have got one change. Tickner is back. Matt Fisher misses out.
Toss Update: New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Shreyas Iyer calls heads, but it's tails again. For the first time in this series, New Zealand have won the toss.
12 PM IST, 7:30 PM Local Time: Mitchell Santner and Shreyas Iyer – the two captains are in all readiness for the toss.
Gautam Gambhir (India Head Coach):
Jacob Duffy (New Zealand): "[On adjustments that he made from Wellington, where it didn't quite go so well for the bowlers, to the success he had in Auckland?]  Yeah, obviously Wellington was a bit of a write-off. We weren't too proud of what we put out there. So we talked a lot in between games, especially, you know, sort of the opening guys. I think we just tightened our lines a little bit, tightened them up, and then became a little bit more unpredictable, I guess, throwing the Yorker in and not letting those guys, I guess, back away and free their arms a little bit.

[On his variations and when he decides to opt for them] Cross-seam, that was all just on the pitch, on the day. Obviously, Eden Park offers a little bit of bounce, and you get a little bit more variable with the cross-seam. So that was just an on-the-fly thing on the day. But normally in the top six, like I say, we're a tight unit, so we like to talk, and someone tries something, and if it works, so be it.

[What mentality must you have as a bowler to be successful on these small grounds?] Yeah, sometimes you've got to be a bit of a goldfish and just forget about it. I guess it's T20 these days. I think if you look at scores everywhere, you know, those Indian series, 250 is not uncommon. Obviously, we scored 260 the other day. So yeah, you've just got to be a little bit forgetful sometimes. You know, obviously, if you get whacked out of the ground, you've got to park it, move on and on to the next one. It's all about being clear-minded and knowing what you have to do next."
