That's it from our coverage of match 35 of the Women's big Bash League 2022. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee and scorer/analyst Dushyant Kumar. Stay tuned for more cricket coverage from across the globe.
Molly Strano is the player of the match.
It was the Hurricane's day all along as they seal a huge huge win over the Melbourne Renegades by 8 wickets which has made them the team with the best net run rate in the tournament with 9 points to their name. After restricting the Melbourne Renegades to a paltry score of 80, the Hurricanes batters took no time to chase the total.
Molly Strano was the hero with the ball in hand picking up 4 wickets in quick succession getting good support from the other bowlers with Heather Graham picking up 2 wickets. Amy Smith, Nicola Carey and Ruth Johnston also chipped with a wicket apiece.
In response skipper Elyse Villani (41*) and Lizelle Lee (10) got the Hurricanes to an excellent start as they added 33 runs in the powerplay. Sophie Molineux looked good with the ball in hand as she picked up all the 2 wickets for the Renegades.
No other bowler could display any intent to fight for defending the total as Heather Graham (23*) joined hands with Villani to finish the game off in just 10.4 overs. Earlier in the day, middle order batter Courtney Webb top scored with 30 off 36 balls to give some amount of runs on the board for the Renegades.
10.4 S Coyte to H Graham
4 FOUR!!! And it's all over as the Hurricanes get home by 8 wickets! Length delivery outside the off stump. Graham plays a cross batted shot through the covers and finds the fence!
10.3 S Coyte to E Villani
1 Good length on the off stump, Villani pushes forward and gets an inside edge to deep midwicket for a run.
10.2 S Coyte to E Villani
0 Length delivery on the fifth stump line, Villani defends in the off side with a straight bat.
10.1 S Coyte to E Villani
4 FOUR! Over the wicket. Short of length outside the off stump. Villani pulls past the diving midwicket fielder and finds the gap wide of mid on for four!!
Time for Drinks. We just need to complete the formalities in Hobart with the Hurricanes comfortably placed at 73/2 after 10 overs chasing a mere 81 for the win. They just need 8 more runs to win with plenty of time left. Elyse Villani is leading the chase with 36* off 31 balls leading from the front. Graham is with her on 19* off 18 balls. This match could be over in a couple of overs from here.
