Tugral: A confident victory for the Reds as they beat Grace by 6 wickets to register their first win in the SLC Invitational Cup.
The Reds won the toss and elected to bowl today and that seemed to be going completely in their favor in the first innings and even when Mendis and Co. came out to chase, the day was going in their favor. Reds got off to a scintillating start while chasing a total of 121 runs, Croospulle and Mendis looked in good touch, and stitched a partnership of 88 runs for the first wicket. More than half of the runs had already been scored during the powerplay by Croospulle and Mendis. Croospulle scored the first half-century of his domestic T20 career and got run out during a mix-up. Mendis (34 off 30) lost his wicket shortly after Croospulle was dismissed due to a poor shot.
Following that, the grey team's bowlers gained some confidence and took some wickets by maintaining some exact lines and lengths. Kamindu Mendis played a short inning of 15 and got caught in Pulina's spin. But in the end, Hasaranga and Sahan scored an unbeaten 3* and 2* to help their team win the match by 6 wickets.
From the bowling end, after Greys got the first breakthrough, they did not give the Reds team any chance to return to the match. Akila Dhananjay was an effective and impactful bowler throughout the innings. He was the pick of the bowlers for Greys as he took a couple of wickets and gave away 36 runs in his 4 overs. Paulina Tharanga also took one wicket. Greys team won't be happy with his performance because they missed many catches on the ground and didn't play very well with the bat either.
