It was a complete team performance from the Lucknow Falcons to first recover from a top-order collapse to post a competitive total, and then it was the brilliance of their bowlers that completely outclassed the struggling batting order of Gorakhpur Lions to clinch a 24-run victory.
With this win, Lucknow Falcons have ensured their top-two finish and will play Qualifier 1 against Meerut Mavericks. On the other hand, Gorakhpur Lions' road ahead now becomes tough with just one game left in their league phase.
Ajeet Verma (POTM): "(On the preparation for this season) The preparation was simply that whenever I got an opportunity, I wanted to make the most of it. I was working hard and, hopefully, when the opportunity came, I took it. The management showed faith in me, and when I got the chance.
(On his approach while batting today) I wasn't thinking about too much. My only thought was to take the game as deep as possible. Towards the end, when two batters are set, you can score runs more easily.
(On playing sweep shots) Yes, it's my favourite shot.
(On conversation with batting partner while batting) Nothing much. We were just talking about how games are won as a team. We would see towards the end how much we needed to attack and what we needed to do."

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Lucknow Falcons Captain): "(About the satisfying win today) Absolutely. First of all, it was a very important win for us to qualify, especially for the first round. I think the first aim of the team has been achieved. I would say it was very satisfying because of the way our first 10 overs went—or rather, the fact that we didn’t really get the start we wanted. After that, the partnership we got was something we had been lacking in the tournament so far.
The maturity shown by Ajeet and Kritagya was excellent. I think because of that partnership, we were able to put up that score. Sitting in the dressing room, we were thinking that even if we got 130–140, it would be a fighting total. But we ended up going well beyond our expectations. And the way we bowled, I think it was a very complete performance from us.
(On the partnership between Ajeet Verma and Kritagya Singh in the first innings) Yes. Once the 10 overs were completed, we went inside during the break. Honestly, the aim was that if we could get somewhere around 100 runs after 15 overs and then score another 40–50 runs in the last five overs, our target was around 140. But the way we batted, I think we did much better than what we had expected, as I said. And I think that partnership is the reason we are in this position today.
(Thoughts on Ajeet's innings today) He has given us an impact. His batting has been so impressive that we had to bring him into the playing XI. It shows that when a youngster performs well, it benefits the team as well."
