12:21 AM IST, 7:51 PM local time: Northamptonshire Steelbacks thump Gloucestershire by 8 wickets, with 14 balls to spare and book a place in the semifinals of the Men's T20 Blast 2026.
They might have lost 3 out of their last 4 games coming into this knockout fixture. However, when it mattered, they raised the bar and exhibited why they might be the team to beat in this tournament. The captain set the tone with the ball in hand, by dismissing the dangerous Dawid Malan for a duck within the first over itself and then, nearly 3 hours later, finished it off by scoring the winning runs too. Yes, in between he had a nightmare of an over, where Ben Charlesworth took him down and scored 22 runs off it. However, apart from that pretty much everything went right for David Willey and his men, and therefore this emphatic result.
It were Willey and Sanderson who asked tough questions with the new ball and reduced Gloucestershire for 20/3. Leg-spinner Calvin Harrison delivered 4 tidy over and picked two wickets to aggravate their problems. James Sales and George Scrimshaw contributed in the middle too. And then, Ben Sanderson returned to exhibit a masterclass of death bowling and finish with 4/20.
In between Ben Charlesworth played a whirlwind innings against the run of play. His 38-ball-68 was the only reason that the visitors could actually get to a respectable score of 152.
