And with that, it's time to wrap up our coverage, folks! Thank you for your patience and for staying with us throughout all the updates. For now, it's me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of my colleagues, Dev Rajawat and Paras Yadav. Until next time, take care and CHEERS!
9:14 PM IST, 5:44 PM Local Time: Bad news, folks! The rain has had the last laugh in this contest, sweeping away yet another game in the tournament — the seventh washout to be precise. Both teams walk away with a point each.
9:10 PM IST, 5:40 PM LOCAL TIME: It is an incredibly grim picture out there right now, and the frustration in both dugouts must be reaching a boiling point. The drizzle simply refuses to let up, offering absolutely no improvement whatsoever as the clock continues to tick away.
8:25 PM IST, 4:55 PM LOCAL TIME: The waiting game stretches on, and unfortunately, there is absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel just yet. The drizzle continues to fall steadily, keeping the ground staff grounded and the covers firmly locked in place over the pitch and the square.
7:46 PM IST, 4:16 PM LOCAL TIME: The frustrating dance with the weather god begins. Just as the excitement was building after a successful toss, the drizzle has picked up in intensity, forcing the ground staff to rush out and secure the pitch along with the surrounding square under the heavy covers. The official start of play has now been formally delayed. While everyone is holding onto the hope that this is merely a passing shower, those thick, dark clouds hovering over the stadium are definitely looking a bit ominous. Both teams have named their XIs, the strategies are locked in, but for now, the tactics are entirely on hold as the waiting game begins. Let's cross our fingers for a swift turnaround from the ground crew!
Temba Bavuma (Ghent Gladiators Captain): (On batting first) "Yeah, we don't mind. In the previous game, the wicket did play quite well, especially in the first innings. We have been bowling quite well, especially first up. Hopefully, today we can get more than just one over in this game. But yeah, we don't mind batting first.
(On the weather interruptions) Yeah, it would be nice to get a full 40 overs of cricket.
(On the team's approach in the knockout stage) I think we've been playing good cricket, as much as it hasn't been a full 40-over game. It's a case of just growing and keeping doing the good things well. With the batting, keep being fearless and positive up front. And from a bowling point of view, be nice and clear with our plans. But yeah, it would be nice to get 40 overs.
(On team selection) No changes from the previous side."
Wayne Parnell (JB Bruges Captain): (On the toss decision) "We're going to bowl first. There's a little bit of drizzle around. Obviously, we don't know what it's going to do, so that's the only reason.
(On the pitch) I watched bits of the first game. Obviously, they (Antwerp Anchors) batted really well. Again, bowl first, restrict them (Ghent Gladiators) to a decent total, and then hopefully chase it down later.
(On the previous Super Over game) Hopefully not. Hopefully, we win it first up. Just get in there and get stuck in.
(On the Super Four stage) Nothing much, just come out, play fearlessly, and obviously be brave as well.
(On team changes) Two changes. Rassie has gone back home. His wife is giving birth soon, so good luck to them. And Nikhil has been called up to the Australian team. I hope he gets a game as well."
Toss Update - JB Bruges won the toss and elected to BOWL first.
JB Bruges enter this contest with momentum on their side after finishing the league stage with two wins from four matches. Rassie van der Dussen has been the standout performer, producing scores of 24, 37, and a brilliant 66, while Lahiru Milantha has consistently provided stability at the top of the order. Nikhil Chaudhary and Gulshan Jha have chipped in with valuable contributions throughout the tournament, making Bruges a difficult batting unit to contain. Their bowling attack has been equally impressive, with Thomas Kaber emerging as one of the most effective wicket-takers in the competition and Wayne Parnell providing leadership and experience. The only concern for Bruges is that Colin Munro has yet to fully explode, but if he finds his rhythm, their batting lineup could become even more dangerous.
Ghent Gladiators, meanwhile, have had one of the strangest campaigns of the tournament. They remain without a victory, but three rain-affected matches helped them sneak into the Super Four ahead of Liege Red Lions. Despite the lack of wins, there have been several positives. Sam Harper has been outstanding with the bat, smashing a superb 75 in the tied game against Bruges, while Temba Bavuma, Ben Manenti, and Josh Brown have all made useful contributions. Their strength lies in their experienced core, featuring players such as Bavuma, Richie Berrington, Dwaine Pretorius, and JJ Smuts, all of whom have played high-level cricket around the world. However, the Gladiators need stronger finishing with both bat and ball, as crucial moments slipped away from them during the league stage and ultimately cost them a famous win against Bruges.
Can Ghent finally get their first win of the tournament, or will JB Bruges continue their rise at exactly the right time? The Hofstade surface has generally offered something for everyone, rewarding aggressive batting while still providing assistance for disciplined bowlers who vary their pace cleverly. The battle between Sam Harper and Thomas Kaber could be absolutely massive, while Rassie van der Dussen against Dwaine Pretorius promises to be another mouth-watering contest. Tactically, Bruges may once again target the middle overs through their spin options and all-rounders, whereas Ghent will look to maximize the PowerPlay and allow their experienced middle order to finish strongly. Rain has played a huge role throughout this tournament, but if the weather stays away today, we could be treated to yet another classic between these two sides. Buckle up, because Super Four cricket is where every mistake hurts and every moment matters!
