Angelo Mathews (Kandy Royals Captain): "(On the performance) Yes it was a good game. Bowling was really good, batting was a bit wayward. You know we kept losing wickets at crucial times. At the halfway stage, we thought we were 20 runs short. Special mention to Moeen Ali for getting us to a decent score. The way he bowled was well. Wanindu was great, he led well in my absence.
(On Garuka Sanketh) It was tough for him. In the very first game he played, he leaked runs, bowled quite a few no-balls. He knew that we lost the game. He came back and he bowled well at Dasun Shanaka, who was firing all cylinders. He executed the yorkers well. Asitha Fernando responded brilliantly and Nuwan Thushara also did well."

A fine knock from Galle Gallants skipper Dasun Shanaka (57*) but he couldn't take his side over the line as Galle end their innings at 154/8. Table-toppers Galle have registered their second loss but they still maintain their position. Kandy Royals are still in the hunt to qualify for the knockouts and have won their second of the season.
Batting first, Kandy Royals had a poor start and lost three wickets inside the powerplay itself. But they still managed to post a competitive total of 165/6.
Galle Gallants started the chase in an unfamiliar way, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was sent as the opening partner of Sam Harper. The gamble to send Miraz did not work as Nuwan Thushara was right on the money to scalp 2 wickets in his opening over. Asitha Fernando was quick to capitalise on the opportunity and removed the danger man, Sam Harper, from the other end. At the end of the power play, Galle Gallants were reduced to 37/3.
After the power play, it was the spin tandem of Moeen Ali and Wanindu Hasaranga that kept things tight for the Royals. Right when a partnership started to brew for the Galle Gallants, Ali removed Charith Asalanka for 14(21). Ali did not stop there, he picked up Sahan Arachchige in his very next over to reduce the Galle Gallants to 54/5.
When things started to look daunting for the Gallants, Skipper Dasun Shanaka joined hands with Chamika Karunaratne in the middle. Karunaratne took the counter-attack in the 11th over, smashing Dushan Hemantha for two huge maximums. From there on, both the batters started playing their shot and brought the team's 3-figure mark in the 15th over. The duo added 73 runs for the sixth wicket before Karunaratne departed for 52 off 35 balls.
Shanaka stayed there and continued scoring boundaries. Only 26 runs were needed in the final two overs but some quality bowling in those two overs by Asitha Fernando and Garuka Sanketh ensured that Shanaka didn't find any loose deliveries. In the end, Galle lost by 11 runs.
