That's all from this high-scoring contest in T20 Blast, folks! For now, it's me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of my colleagues, Dev Rajawat and Zeeshan Naiyer. Good Night. 😴
2:26 AM IST, 9:56 PM Local Time: Excellent comeback from Surrey bowlers after the powerplay, as they chipped in with timely wickets and won this high-scoring clash by 7 runs.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Surrey produced a batting masterclass to post a massive 240/4 in their 20 overs. Openers Jason Roy (65 off 38) and Laurie Evans (40 off 23) laid the perfect platform with a blistering 98-run opening stand, taking Surrey to 75/0 in the Powerplay. Although Matt Critchley (2/36) removed both openers, Surrey never lost momentum. Captain Ollie Pope and Josh Philippe then took charge with a stunning 105-run partnership off just 50 balls. Pope smashed 59 off 26, while Philippe remained unbeaten on 61 off 30. Daniel Lawrence added a quickfire 12 off 3* at the end as Surrey stormed to a daunting 240/4. Chasing a daunting 241, Essex put up a spirited fight but eventually finished on 233/8, falling just seven runs short. Paul Walter led the charge with a sensational 78 off 30 balls, smashing 12 fours and four sixes, while the hosts raced to 95/1 in the Powerplay. However, Surrey hit back with regular wickets as Reece Topley dismissed Walter soon after his fifty, triggering a middle-order collapse that halted Essex’s momentum. Noah Thain kept Essex in the hunt with a valuable 36 off 25, before Shane Snater (33 off 14)* and Zaman Akhter (26 off 10)* launched a late assault with an unbeaten 59-run stand for the ninth wicket. Despite the late fireworks, Essex fell just short. Reece Topley and Dan Lawrence starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each, while Tom Lawes chipped in with two wickets.

6 SIX!!! ZAMAN FINISHES WELL BUT ESSEX FALL SHORT!! Back of a length and around off. Zaman opens his stance and gets hold of this one. Clubs it down the ground over the long on fence for a biggie. SURREY HAVE DEFEATED ESSEX BY JUST 7 RUNS!!!
19.5 Tom Lawes to Zaman Akhter
0 THAT WILL DO FOR SURREY!! Short of a good length and outside off. Zaman tries to smash it but misses.
19.4 Tom Lawes to Shane Snater
1 JUST A SINGLE ON A FREEBIE!! Back of a length and around off, pulled it down to deep mid-wicket for one.
NO BALL! That was well above the waist height, and Snater smashed it over deep backward square leg for a biggie. 15 needed off 3 balls now.
19.4 Tom Lawes to Shane Snater
NB6 NO BALL AND A SIX!! A waist-high full toss, around middle and leg. Shane is surprised and swings across the line. Loses his bottom hand but gets a good connection. The ball goes all the way over the deep fine leg fence for a biggie. A free-hit is up next...
