That's all we have for you from the European T20 Premier League. This is Rajarshi Das, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator, Saptak Sanyal, and scorer/analyst, Zeeshan Naiyer. Good night!
The Castle Rockers, the Dockers and the Belfast Wolves will all have an eye on the game tomorrow. The Amsterdam Flames, currently on 11 points, will play their final league game tomorrow against Glasgow Cosmic, a team that is already out of contention for the semi-final. Join us right here on Crex for our coverage of the game, and keep following us for a whole lot more!
The Edinburgh Castle Rockers could have sealed a spot in the final with a win today itself. Them slowing down in the middle phase of the run-chase hurt them badly today. Big final league game coming up for the Rotterdam Dockers - playing the Dublin Guardians, who have been far from the best team of the tournament, the Dockers will fancy their chances of sneaking through to the final directly, provided the other results go in their favour as well.
Faf du Plessis (Rotterdam Dockers captain):"(Tight game, did you guys enjoy?) Good game, it's nice as a fan watching the game when it goes down to the wire. Two strong teams, long batting line-up, these guys. Nervy times there, good experience for the bowlers to put under pressure. We've got some experienced heads there, from a bowling perspective it's pleasing we did the job.
(Did 181 feel good at the break) I said to my boys 185 feels par, we got close, but I felt we were under given the situation that we were in. With myself and Klaasen in the middle, felt like we were going to put our foot on the gas, we still had some batters in the tank. 10 runs shorter in the back end was what we felt, but we bowled well, luckily it didn't cost us.
(On coming to terms with this surface) I feel every pitch we played in this competition on has provided challenges. Got to look at what you get and adapt - the short boundary or how the pitch is playing. It's really good for the domestic players as well to be put in situations to test their brains as well. It's not flat wickets where you can play one way all the time.
(On rotating his bowlers) Got to be flexible with the conditions on offer. If you told me before the game that Roelof van der Merwe was to bowl one over I would have said absolutely no chance, he's a banker for 3-4 overs. The way the ball was coming from spinners felt like it was an easier hit against them, whereas Ranjane can give a bit of variety. He's bowled well two games in a row, he's bowling beautifully for us.
(On the last game) Still 4 teams in it, can't believe it. It's a really good rule in a six-format condition. Helps the team that plays well. In a six-team competition, if four teams go through, one of them like your... Durban, you don't have to be at your best but you get through. Got to play good cricket to make it through in these cases."
Shubham Ranjane (Player of the Match):"(You had to play a part with bat. Did you enjoy that?) Yeah it was like going there and staying for a few balls. I had Klassy (Heinrich Klaasen) who was already set and it was easy with the way he was striking the ball. We were rotating the strike and waiting for a bad ball.
(How important are those advice they give to you?) I think it is very important when you are in the crease with them and communicate with them. It is all about confidence. I think it boosts you.
(On the bowling today) I think I kept it simple. Just did what the pitch demanded and the skipper asked me to do. I believed in myself and had that faith in my skill. What was needed was a matter of one ball and that was focusing. It helped me.
(Are you confident with keeper up to the stumps?) Yeah when Klassy is up to the stumps, it gives some confidence. I can bowl those variations. And again I said, it gives me confidence as I am bowling.
Player of the Match: Shubham Ranjane
Mitchell Santner (Edinburgh Castle Rockers Captain):"(Did you think your guys did well after two South Africans got going?) Yes probably it was a little bit over par. But I think Faf and Heinrich showed their class again. That counterpunch in the middle, they taken on. Once we adjusted and bowled it wide, I think we pulled things back well.
(On the surface) I think it was a good wicket. A bit sloppy, but the guys are getting accustomed to it. It seems quite effective to bowl top of stumps. Anything full and short can be dispatched. As a bowling unit, we are learning and so are the batters.
(Was that pull back in the middle disappointing while chasing?) A little bit. I think Ranjane bowled really well. On that pitch, he bowled on top of stumps and forced the batters to go square and it was tough. I think the powerplay went good, but we can't do that well in the middle phase.
(Do you learn more from those back to back losses?) We have to. We still plan for playing good cricket and do something better. Probably we got sloppy a bit, but still we are in a pretty good position. We have to do well in our last game, it is in our hands now.
(The next game against Belfast Wolves will be a big encounter) Yeah massive! They are playing good cricket. In this tournament, they are a top team. I think last time it was a close loss and that is a good thing. But I think it comes down to net run rate. I think a win will take things in our control."
10:27 PM IST, 5:57 PM Local Time: The Dockers are triumphant, having pulled off a nervy win, and they jump to second in the points table and make their case for a spot in the semi-final much, much stronger! Tom Curran and Mitchell Santner were posing a threat going into the last five overs for them, but credit must go to Faf du Plessis - he rotated his bowlers brilliantly, making use of his fast-bowling resources, and the Edinburgh Castle Rockers have been held!
Earlier today, Colin Munro propelled the Rotterdam Dockers off to a breezy start after they won the toss and batted first, hitting 26 out of the 35 runs within the first four overs before being dismissed by Jack Jarvis, who dropped a regulation chance off him 8 balls prior to it. Faf du Plessis, having played second fiddle in the first four overs, got in on the act, smashing four boundaries in five deliveries between the fifth and sixth over. Mitchell Santner and Brandon McMullen slowed things down to an extent after the powerplay, the latter accounting for Vikramjit Singh.
Du Plessis accelerated going into the second half of the innings, and once Heinrich Klaasen hit his straps, peppering the leg-side boundaries almost at will, the signs were not looking good for the Edinburgh Castle Rockers. Tom Curran brought them back into the game, getting the well-set du Plessis to hole out for 54. The wicket of Klaasen in the 17th over further helped the Castle Rockers' cause - Shubham Ranjane and David Wiese struggled to find the boundaries frequently at the back end of the innings. Wiese did, taking the Dockers past 170, and they ended with 181 eventually.
