That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of scorer Zeeshan Naiyer. Tata. Bye Bye.
Dhananjaya de Silva (Dambulla Aura Skipper): "Our bench also has good strength. We have a bunch of guys who can step up whenever needed. It’s a good headache to have for the coaching staff and the captain to select the four overseas players. It was my day. The wicket was helping me and the ball was spinning which helped me."
Player of the Match: Dhananjaya de Silva
Wanindu Hasaranga (B-Love Candy Skipper): "We are humans and we can’t play this way. We haven’t played at our best. As I said, we all are humans and we can’t play back-to-back games. We don’t have 24 hours of rest as well. Our bowlers did a very good job and one or two batters need to score more runs."
10:57 PM IST, Local Time: That’s it. A solid all-around effort from the Dambulla Aura sees them beat the B-Love Candy by 20 runs. With this win, they have sealed a spot in the first qualifier of the Lanka Premier League 2023. Dambulla Aura will have to fire in unison when they take the field in the playoffs.
Chasing 163 was always going to be a difficult task and B-Love Candy got off to a disastrous start. They lost Fakhar Zaman (8) and Mohammad Haris (2) in the second over. Wanindu Hasaranga along with Dinesh Chandimal led the recovery work. Both stitched a 35-run stand between them before Hasaranga got cleaned up on 19. Angelo Mathews looked good at the crease for his 26 before getting dismissed.
Chandimal fought hard but he lacked support as the B-Love Kandy kept on losing wickets from the other end. Chandimal kept finding boundaries at regular intervals and brought up his fifty. With 43 required from the last four overs, Chandimal dragged one back onto the stumps on 50. The Aura bowlers wrapped up the tail quickly to knock over B-Love Candy on 142 to win the game by 20 runs. Dhananjaya de Silva was outstanding with the ball. He registered figures of 4/6 in his two overs as it helped them defend the total successfully.
Earlier, the Dambulla Aura were asked to bat first and they got off to a flying start. Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama played some beautiful strokes upfront and scored at a brisk rate. The Aura bowlers went on a journey as Aura scored 53 at the end of the powerplay. The 61-run opening stand was broken in the eighth over after Samarawickrama fell on 31. Fernando also departed soon on 41 as it allowed B-Love Candy to get back in the game.
The Kandy bowlers bowled tighter in the middle phase and kept a lid on the scoring rate. Aura were going nowhere in their innings before Ben McDermott played a good knock of 37 off 23 balls to recover their innings. Hayden Kerr lower down the order played a handy cameo of 26 off 16 balls to take Aura to 162 at the end of their 20 overs. B-Love Kandy picked up seven wickets in total, with Nuwan Pradeep finishing with three. Mujeeb Ur Rahman also chipped in with two scalps.
Dambulla Aura bowlers eventually stepped up and made sure that they defend the total successfully to finish the league stages on a high.
W Cleans him up. Madushan nails the yorker and knocks over Pradeep on a duck. Bowls a perfect yorker on the stumps, Pradeep looks to hit it into the on side but fails to get any bat on it as the ball hits the base of the leg stump. With this, Dambulla Aura beat B-Love Candy by 20 runs.
19.3 P Madushan to N Pradeep
0 Short delivery outside off and Pradeep sways out of the line of it.
