The play off spots are confirmed. The stage is set. We have a couple of days off before the caravan shifts to Colombo for the final four games which include the grand finale on the 8th August. Dambulla Sixers have every reason to feel unfortunate as a win could have kept their qualification chances alive but the washout made them finish at the final position of the points table.
Do join us for the qualifier and the eliminator games on Wednesday. Until then, this is myself Saptak Sanyal, signing off on behalf of the scorer/analyst of this game Yogesh Kumar. Good night.
Lanka Premier League Playoff Schedule:-
Qualifier 1- Jaffna Kings vs Galle Gallants (5th August, 3 PM IST and Local Time, R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo)
Eliminator- Colombo Kaps vs Kandy Royals (5th August, 7:30 PM IST and Local Time, R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo)
In the first innings of the game, Dambulla Sixers batted first losing the toss. Dinesh Chandimal's 44 and Pavan Rathnayake's fine 47 propelled them to a good total. Then a late flourish from Gulbadin Naib and Maheesh Theekshana propelled them to over 200 and they finished with 202/8. For the Jaffna Kings, Dilshan Madushanka shone with the ball, picking up three wickets. We had a rain break before the start of the final over, but the players were back in the field within 3 minutes. But it started to rain at the innings break, then stopped once and then 20 minutes later, it started raining again and that was persistent. It forced the match officials to call the game off.
10:43 PM IST and Local Time: Bad news folks! The game has been called off because of the persistent rain. Dambulla Sixers and Jaffna Kings have got one point each from this match. Sixers have finished with 5 points and they finish last at the points table.
10:31 PM IST and Local Time: We can see more covers are being brought on. One of the match officials is having a chat with Dinesh Chandimal, who is decked up in his keeping pads and the inner gloves. Gulbadin Naib has also joined the chat. The drizzle is back and it is steady.
10:24 PM IST and Local Time: A blue cover has been brought back again to cover the center wicket and our waiting game continues.
10:20 PM IST and Local Time: The covers have been taken off and the center wicket is visible now. A lot of activity is going now but it is still a very positive news. Specially for the Dambulla Sixers, for whom, this game is a must win.
10:13 PM IST and Local Time: Most of the covers have been peeled off but the center wicket still remains under the cover. Hope the delay is not long.
9:54 PM IST and Local Time: Good news folks! It seems that the rain has eased off. The groundstaff are peeling the covers off.
9:38 PM IST and Local Time: This time the drizzle has intensified. The entire square and the outfield is now getting covered with blue covers.
