Madurai Panthers continue their impressive run in the ongoing TNPL, defeating Dindigul Dragons by 21 runs in the rain-curtailed game to make it four wins on the trot. Meanwhile, Dindigul Dragons have plenty to ponder after suffering their third consecutive defeat, having won their opening game of the tournament.
Balchander Anirudh Sita Ram (Madurai Panthers Captain): "[On his squad being a blend of young and experienced players] I mean, we had a two-week camp before the tournament, where we played a lot of practice games and had plenty of volume sessions. We were practising almost every day, so in a way, I know the strengths and weaknesses of our team. But the way we’ve started, especially winning four games back-to-back, is not easy. I feel I have to keep this momentum going.
[Were you satisfied with the first innings total?] Initially, we had a great powerplay. We were 65 after five overs, which was something we were very happy with. But towards the middle and end, it wasn’t easy to hit. The wicket was a bit two-paced, and the slower balls were difficult to pick and execute. At the time, I felt we were about 10 runs short, but looking at it now, I think we were probably 20 runs above what was par on that wicket.
[Your social media feeds tell us that you have this little prize distribution ceremony that's happening inside the dressing room. What's that all about?] I mean, it’s like our own in-house award ceremony, which we have after every game, irrespective of whether we win or lose. It’s a way to keep motivating our players."

Rohan Bhutra: "(On bowling in the powerplay) Before the season, they gave me my role. I knew what my role was. God has been kind because I have got Player of the Match in both of my first two games.
(The fact that other teams will be looking to decode the mystery in his bowling) I don't think about it too much. I just stick to my variations and I bowl whatever I have practiced.
(On his twin brother) Yes, I share my notes with him. He is a left-hander batter and a mystery spinner too. When no one is available, we can practice together."

Earlier, after being invited to bat first in the rain-curtailed 18-over game, Siechem Madurai Panthers posted a formidable 171/7. They got off to a flying start, racing to 66 in the powerplay, with R Ram Kumar smashing 40 off just 15 balls and Sidharth Mahadevan adding 22. NS Chaturved then anchored the middle overs with a valuable 42 off 31, while Atheeq Ur Rahman chipped in with 26 off 19. The Panthers maintained their momentum throughout the shortened innings, with Gurjapneet Singh adding an unbeaten 13 off six balls to take them to a strong total.
