That's all for the coverage of this game. It's a double header day, so do join us for the live coverage of the second TNPL match, starting at 7:30 PM. Till the next time, it's a ta-ta and a goodbye from me, Anurag Dasgupta and my co-commentator, Arjun Bhalla and Anurag Singh.
Kaushik Gandhi | The winning skipper: It was very satisfying. Kudos to our middle and lower order batsmen, it's good that we are in the winning side. All areas, there is scope for improvement.
Narayan Jagadeesan | Man of the Match: The win was really important for us, if the result had gone the other way, we would've been under the pump. I am disappointed that I didn't finish the game but I am glad others finished it for us.
Daryl Ferrario | The losing skipper: It was a pretty tight target. We fought well but wickets after Powerplay stopped the momentum but we tried our best. I train a lot and the energy comes from there. 143 was not a huge score, we gave a good fight. The takeaway is we have the ability to make a good fist of even low totals.
Time for the presentation ceremony
DG: There was a twist in the tale as Salem Spartans roared back in the game and dismissed both Jagadeesan and Sasidev in quick succession. However, a late onslaught from Harish Kumar tilted the game in Super Gillies’s favour and helped his side cross the winning line with 7 balls to spare.
DG: Chasing a relatively easy total of 143, the Super Gillies were off to a worse possible start to their run chase. They lost 4 wickets inside the first powerplay and the Spartans were right on top of them. With nearly half the side back to the pavilion, it looked like the defending champions might lose their second game on a trot, but a match-winning partnership between Jagadeesan and Sasidev rescued their sinking ship and took the score past the 100-run mark. Jagadeesan continued from where he left against the Royal Kings and notched-up his second fifty in a row. He was amply supported by Uthirasamy Sasidev who took the pressure of Jagadeesan and was the aggressor in the early part of the innings.
DG: That’s it, the match has ended and what a scintillating run-chase it has been by the Chepauk Super Gillies who have won this match by 4 wickets. At one stage, the Super Gillies were almost done and dusted inside the first 6 overs. But an inspiring batting performance from Jagadeesan and Sasidev helped the defending champs cross the winning line.
Arjun: Sinivas finishes off in style. First win of the season for Chepauk Super Gillies and the defending champions put maiden points on the table. Up and onwards!
18.5 G Periyaswamy to J Sinivas
4 FOUR!! That is game over for the Spartans and the defending champions are up and running. Pitches this in the slot to Sinivas who whips this wide of deep square leg for a boundary to finish the chase.
