Specially at one stage, they were cruising and we managed to pull the score back. Credit must go to Viyaskanth, Akif and Eshan Malinga for bowling brilliantly at the last five overs. Backed it up with some good fielding. Sam Harper was outstanding, playing to the field and put up a crucial partnership with Charith Asalanka. Sahan Arachchige gave the finishing touches. Sam Harper (Player of the Match): "[About his knock and the chase] It is a beautiful ground here and you get good value for shots. We knew 190 on that surface was going to be a tricky chase. Benny and Mendis played beautifully them and showed how to bat here against spin. It was a good challenge.

11:03 PM IST & Local Time: A clinical five-wicket win for the Galle Gallants over Colombo Kaps as they go two in two to start the 2026 LPL season. Sahan Arachchige (38* off 16) and Mohammad Nawaz (16* off 8) both played key roles to take their team home with four balls to spare.
Chasing 190 for victory, Galle lost Lasith Croospulle early in the piece as Hasan Mahmud had him caught-behind in his very first over. Sam Harper and Mehdiy Hasan Miraz who was promoted to No.3 still kept the run-rate high as the Colombo bowlers failed to curb the boundaries. Mehidy couldn't make it big though as he swept a harmless delivery from Wanuja Sahan to the man at backward square-leg.
Galle finished the Powerplay at 54/2 and there wasn't much to rejoice for Colombo for a long time as Harper and Charith Asalanka put on a terrific 72-run partnership to set-up the chase. Harper went onto register his first-ever LPL fifty off 38 balls in the 13th over before Hasan Mahmud came back into the attack to dismiss Charith Asalanka for 28. Malsha Tharupathi also struck as Harper holed out to the deep as Colombo started to make a comeback. Yet, Binuru Fernando released all the pressure as Dasun Shanaka and Sahan Arachchige combined to take 18 runs off the 16th over.
The experienced overseas pro Jimmy Neesham did castle Shanaka in the 18th over to keep his side just in the game. However, Mohammad Nawaz and Arachchige held their nerve to consistently produce boundaries. Galle needed four off the final over and it only took two balls to complete the chase.
Earlier in the match, Shanaka took the new ball and castled Rubin Hermann in the second over itself. Sadeera Samarawickrama got off to a flier before his innings was cut short by Nawaz in the 5th over. Colombo Kaps scored 68 in the Powerplay but they had also lost Kamindu Mendis within the first six overs after he was caught behind off Akif Javed's bowling.
Thereafter, Colombo skipper Kusal Mendis and Ben McDermott got together to stitch a 97-run stand which gave hope of a 200+ total. Both the batters got to their respective fifties and looked ominous before Eshan Malinga trapped McDermott in front with a reverse-swinging delivery. In the next over, Akif Javed also undid Janith Liyanage with a well-directed short delivery. The runs completely dried up in the last four overs which fetched Colombo just 28 runs for the loss of five wickets. This included a strange run-out in the final over as Kusal didn't give his all and was found short of the crease by Shanaka. The final over was exceptional as Akif Javed conceded only three runs and also took two other wickets to end up with four wickets while Colombo finished with 189/8!
