That's it from our coverage of match 5 from LPL 2022. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer Paras Yadav. Stay tuned for more cricket coverage from across the globe.
Angelo Mathews (Colombo Stars Captain): "It was a pretty decent batting effort especially after the bad start that we got. Niroshan Dickwella batted brilliantly. Drakes, Chandimal all contributed brilliantly with the batting. We had Vandersay also in our lineup today but I felt the seamers were brilliant.
Naveen-ul-Haq, Karim Janat, Drakes. Suranga especially. They are very experienced and bowled exactly what they wanted to. One side was having a strong breeze across and we wanted them to make the batter hit against it.
Its a better performance as compared to the first game but it can happen with any team and it happened to us in the very first game. It was an eye opener for us. We just thought, we'll go out there, we'll give our very best and sometimes it happens but overall I think it was a very good performance."
Dasun Shanaka (Dambulla AURA Captain): "We started really well and in the middle phase we didn't bowl really well. There was no wicket taking bowler but still 164 was a good total on this wicket. Its simple, its all about the partnerships. I asked the players to stay with me. We need to come up good in the next game.
Pramod Madushanka and Chamindu Wickramasinghe are 2 fast bowlers who got injured before the tournament started so hopefully we will have them back in Kandy."
Niroshan Dickwella(Player of the match): "I reduced the risk. The opening part of the innings proved difficult to bat on due to the wicket. I'm not making many plans. I'd like to go game by game. I want to carry out all of my team's requests. Those two catches I had to take to win this game."
Niroshan Dickwella is the player of the match.
Time for the post-match presentations with Daren Ganga.
The Angelo Mathews led Colombo Stars have registered their first victory of the season by winning this encounter against the Dambulla AURA by 9 runs. The Stars won the toss and elected to bat first getting a good start from opener Niroshan Dickwella (62 off 41).
Some handy knocks from Ravi Bopara, Dinesh Chandimal and Dominic Drakes made sure the Stars got a good total of 165/9 in their 20 overs. Lahiru Kumara was the star with the bowl and picked up figures of 4/36 with Tharindu Ratnayake, Sikandar Raza and Lahiru Madushanka picking up a wicket apiece.
The AURA openers provided them with a good start but the middle order collapsed as the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Suranga Lakmal, Dominic Drakes and Karim Janat hunted in pairs and bagged 6 wickets between them to give them a victory in the final over which puts the Stars at number 3 in the points table.
