That’s it from all of us for this game. Don’t go anywhere as the second game of the Sunday doubleheader begins shortly. This is me, Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Samanvaya Sharma and scorers Bishal Mandal and Ashok Dayma. Tata. Bye Bye.

Umar Amin | Northern Skipper: I am really happy with the play we have played today. From the last few matches, we are unable to find momentum, but in this game, we have achieved the same. We have a young side and I really liked to work with them, as they provide positive energy in every game, which also motivates players like me to perform well. I think many teams are unable to execute their plans properly the reason for which they were unable to chase the target down. Also, really happy with the way Tanveer played today.'
Qasim Akram | Central Punjab Skipper: "I feel we didn't bowl well in the last few overs, which unfortunately shifted the momentum towards our opponents. We also need to improve our fielding skills, as it is also an important part of this game. Other than this we always looked to perform as a unit. We will definitely try to bounce back hard in our upcoming matches."

Ali Imran | Player of the Match: "Thanks to the almighty for contributing to the team’s first win today. Getting rid of captaincy helped me play with freedom. My plan was to take the innings deep and then play my strokes freely. Umar said that 140 was a good total on the board and if we bowled well, we would be able to defend it. So, I eyed to get 140-150."

Ali Imran is named the Player of the Match for his knock of 56 off 34 balls.
Time for the post-match presentations.
Akshay: Phew!!! What a thrilling end to this match. Northern manage to hold their nerves to beat Central Punjab by three runs to register their first win of the Pakistan T20 Cup 2022. Central Punjab fail to chase 147 as they lose their fourth successive game, failing to win a single game in this year’s competition.

Chasing 147, Central Punjab got off to a steady start. Ahmed Shehzad struggled for timing and his scratchy innings of 14 came to an end in the fourth over. Abdullah Shafique joined hands with Tayyab Tahir and started to build a partnership. Both took some time to settle in but once they got their eye in, they started playing their strokes freely.

Tahir played very good strokes and brought up his fifty off 38 balls. The 83-run stand was broken in the 13
th over when Masood showed great presence of mind to run out Tahir on 53. Shafique departed in the next over on 33 and the required run rate kept climbing up. Mohammad Akhlaq and Qasim Akram cleared the fence in the last few overs to get them closer to the target but failed to chase it down as they fell agonizingly short by three runs.

Earlier in the day, the match was reduced to 16 overs per side due to rain in the morning. Central Punjab skipper Qasim Akram won the toss and opted to bowl first in the overcast conditions. They had a very good start as they picked up two early wickets. After a shaky start, Hassan Nawaz Tarar along with Ali Imran steadied the ship for Northern. Tarar was dismissed on 24 but there was no stopping Imran from the other end as he played some outstanding strokes.

Imran lacked support from the other end as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Imran brought up his fifty but departed soon on 56. Sohail Tanvir coming to bat lower down the order hit some lusty blows in the end and played a cameo of 20* off 8 balls to power Northern to 146. Mohammad Ali bowled brilliantly for Central Punjab and picked up three wickets. Aamer Yamin and Ali Asfand also bagged a couple of scalps each. The batters tried hard but failed to seize the crunch moments as they fail to chase down the total, losing their fourth successive game this season.
Stick around for the post-match presentations.
