(About Dunith Wellalage coming in at number 4) See it was just a fact that we wanted to give him some time to settle and score runs. We wanted to keep the left hand-right hand combination but it did not go well. Still the firepower in the lower order came well.
(How much pressure does it add to you as the tournament is still open?) I will be lying if I say that there is no pressure while playing a game. It is always nice to grab those two points and come second at the table along with Galle. It is nice to keep winning and keep the calm."

(On the way he paced his innings) If you look at the whole tournament, I was trying for that momentum, it wasn't there, I was telling myself to take time, I had the shots, manage the innings, not worry about the strike rate. The more you keep batting on the wicket, the more runs you'll get, the more you can target the bowler. This worked. I didn't put any pressure on myself today, just enjoyed myself.
(On missing out on a hundred) To be honest, I was thinking about the team. I will get many hundreds if I bat like this, but I was worried about those last seven balls. If I had got that hundred, I would have been very happy, but I was thinking about the team. We were trying to put a good total on the board."

We could have restricted to 190 but still as a batting group we should have chased it. I think me and Sadeera got out in a crucial situation and that was the turning point of the game.

11:08 PM IST, Local Time: As it turns out, the last over of the first innings turned out to be the difference between both sides today. The Jaffna Kings had momentum going into that last over, but Towhid Hridoy took them into a dominant position going into the break. The Colombo Kaps were in the game for a major part of the chase, but lost their way in the last five overs or so.
Kamil Mishara donned the role of aggressor for the Jaffna Kings today, after they were put in to bat. Mishara needed to do so, as the Kings lost their in-form opener Avishka Fernando in the third over to Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Shahnawaz Dahani was taken to the cleaners in the 4th over, going for 21, and Mishara went on to dominate the powerplay, helping the Jaffna Kings get to 61 in the first six overs.
Jimmy Neesham broke through for the Colombo Kaps after the powerplay, accounting for the dangerous Mishara for 44. The Kaps then went on to apply the squeeze in the middle overs as Neesham, alongside Malsha Tharupathi, Wanuja Sahan and Milan Rathnayake, barely bowled any boundary balls. The bowlers - both slow and fast - mixed their lengths and pace to great effect.
The floodgates opened up for the Jaffna Kings as the death overs drew close. Ibrahim Zadran, who had been struggling to accelerate immensely in the middle overs, feasted on some ordinary bowling from his countryman Mujeeb Zadran, clearing the leg side boundary twice and taking him for 22 in the 18th over. While Neesham managed to do some damage control in the penultimate over, going for only seven as two wickets fell in it, Shahnawaz Dahani, having been given the last over, lost the plot completely, aiming to hit the yorker length to Towhid Hridoy and failing miserably.
Hridoy cleared square leg, long on, deep point in succession, then cover in the penultimate delivery, before finishing the innings with the boundary. 31 came off the last over, and Jaffna Kings had ample momentum going into the break with 202 on the board. The Jaffna Kings continued with their momentum with the ball as well, with Mohamed Shiraz and Dilshan Madushanka troubling the Colombo Kaps top-order with movement off the air and a bit off the pitch. Madushanka accounted for Rubin Hermann in the second over, bowling him with a delivery that straightened off the wicket.
Samarawickrama, having struggled for a large part of the powerplay, realised he could use the pace of the bowler to accelerate, and did exactly that, scooping Madushanka for sixes on both sides behind the wicket in the 4th over. Shakib pulled things back with a 4-run over, Samarawickrama then ended the powerplay with a couple of boundaries, and the Kaps had 48 on the board after the first six.
Bandara ran himself out foolishly after the powerplay, and the Kaps were behind the asking rate considerably at that point. There was a period of acceleration after that as skipper Kamindu Mendis walked in with intent. He pulled his second ball for six, and went on to race to 28 off 12 before slicing Traveen Mathew down the throat of Mohamed Shiraz at point. Samarawickrama followed two balls later, done in flight by Dunith Wellalage, and the Kaps were in strife.
