Punjab skipper Uday Saharan led from the front with a masterclass knock, scoring a brilliant 161 off 299 balls to set up Punjab's towering first-innings effort. In contrast, Shubman Gill had a tough return to the Ranji stage, managing just 1 off 5 balls before getting bowled. Despite the defeat, Chhattisgarh put up a brave fight to make Punjab work for the result, but Saharan’s leadership and Punjab’s early dominance proved far too strong in the end.
Punjab secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over Chhattisgarh. After posting a formidable 456 in their first innings, Punjab enforced the follow-on by rolling Chhattisgarh out for 206. Chhattisgarh showed commendable grit in their second innings, mounting 335 to force Punjab to bat again, but the hosts easily chased down the 86-run target to wrap up a comprehensive win.

4 PM IST, Local Time: A single and with that Punjab have won this Group B Ranji Trophy fixture by 7 wickets. A comprehensive win by the hosts. However, Chhattisgarh should be given credit as well for fighting back in the second innings and taking this game into the final hour of play. Punjab have now registered their first outright win of the season and now have 5 points to their name. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh have now suffered their first loss of the season after drawing their opening game against Saurashtra.
Chhattisgarh had a poor outing with the bat in the first innings and then lost the first three wickets in the second innings a bit quickly. However, the pair of Aayush Pandey and Amandeep Khare took the game and built a strong 4th wicket partnership. Pandey went on to score a ton while Khare scored a half-century before getting retired hurt. The lower-order batters, especially Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Ajay Mandal, played with responsibility against Punjab spinners and covered the first-innings deficit. The duo made the Punjab bowlers work very hard to clean up the tail. In a display of bravery, Khare came out to bat again but couldn't have much of an impact as his arm was in a lot of pain. Ultimately, the visitors managed 335/10 in the second innings, which forced Punjab to come out to bat for the second time.
After being given a target of 86 runs to win the game, Punjab knew that they had enough overs to chase it down. However, the Chhattisgarh spinners were right on the money from the start and removed the home side's openers cheaply. However, skipper Uday Saharan again took the responsibility on his shoulders and used the sweep shot effectively. He was given good support by Prabhsimran Singh and the duo had a 33-run stand for the third wicket in just 30 balls. Prabhsimran was dismissed but Saharan stayed in the middle. He and Salil Arora completed the chase inside 17 overs to give their side a 7-wicket win.

Saharan and Arora deserved to stay at the crease when the winning run was scored, as the duo had scored a ton each in the first innings, which helped the hosts gain a massive advantage in this game. But not to forget spinner Harpreet Brar's wonderful spell, in which he picked up 7 wickets and demolished Chhattisgarh's batting in the first innings.
