Until then, this is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my colleagues Manan Mehta and Ghanendra Singh Thakur! See you at the next one.
With that said, it is time for us to close out the coverage of DPL 2026 from today! Join us back tomorrow as we continue to bring you the live coverage of all the cricketing action from around the world!
Fun fact from today's match: even though the total runs scored today were over 400, only 1 player managed to cross the half-century mark across both innings (Jasvir Sehrawat with 62). This reminds us of the importance of cameos in T20 cricket and how even a player scoring 19 off 5 can make all the difference towards the end.
Some incredible performances from players of both teams today, both with the bat and ball to remind us what we were missing due to inclement weather over the previous 3 matches. The DPL 2026 is back in full swing once again and things may have gotten a bit more interesting with the table toppers suffering their first defeat of the season.
Shivam Sharma (POTM):"[Importance of beating the table toppers] Yes sir. They have been the best team. We played a very crunch match with them right at the beginning of the season. We lost it unfortunately. This match was important for us to win. Beating the table toppers is a confidence booster for the whole group.
[On the pitch] The pitch was playing well. There was a lot of dew out there so the ball was coming onto the bat nicely. It was a tad sticky, but the dew was covering up for that.
[On their exploits with the bat in the final few overs] At the 13 over mark we felt like we will get past 200 easily. However, we lost quick wickets, and it got tricky. However, we kept a calm mind. We knew we can take a couple of overs to settle and then cover up. We have a great line up. Harsh, Sid and me can strike the ball."
Player of the Match: Shivam Sharma
Siddhant Sharma (Outer Delhi Warriors' Captain): "(Thoughts on Jasvir) It was unfortunate that we dropped him a couple of times, and he batted really well. If we had taken those catches, we could have won by 60-70 runs.
(On if he felt the match was slipping away) No, we did not think we would lose; we were confident that the match would come our way.
(On improvements) We would look to improve our execution in bowling in future matches."
TIme for the post-match presentation ceremony..
Yash Dhull (Central Delhi Kings Captain):"[Was it a bad day?] I would actually call it a good day. We were in a terrible position. To fight back from that position and make a match out of it was a great effort. It is a learning experience for us that we should make fewer mistakes going forward.
[Are the bowlers leaking too many runs?] We have not executed well with the ball. However, we trust our bowlers to win us a game in the upcoming future. The game is such that sometimes the fielder make you win, sometimes the batters and sometimes the bowlers.
[Plans going ahead as a team] We will not have too much of a chat. As I said, we played really well I feel. We have a match tomorrow in the evening. Hopefully you will see us win there."
12:09 AM IST, Local Time | After 3 matches that were abandoned by rain, DPL 2026 produced a high-scoring thriller to get the tournament underway once again and it was the Outer Delhi Warriors that handed Central Delhi Kings their first defeat of the season to take home the points by 25 runs!
