Canterbury kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the first innings. They were bowled out for 222 runs. After the first 20 overs it felt like even 200 would be out of reach but thanks to the partnership between Shipley 55 (67) and Woerkom 41 (78) they managed to get a decent total on the board. Matthew Bacon was the best bowler for Otago on the day with 4 wickets for 45 runs from his 7.2 overs. The openers laid the foundation for Otago and the partnership between Philips 43 (62) and Broom 50 (64) just made sure that they could easily chase down this total. They did lose a few wickets in the middle over but the Finnie's 72 runs off 74 balls made sure they ended up on the right side of the result. Finnie played a wonderfully paced innings to ensure a victory for Otago on the day.
