THIS BRINGS US TO THE WRAP-UP OF TODAY'S CONTEST!!! Myself Abhishek Sharma, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators, Mohammad Anab, Deepak Prakash and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma. Until then, take care and bye-bye!!!
Trinbago Knight Riders Women have directly advanced to the finals of WCPL 2026, and these two teams will meet again for the Playoff match on the 16th September (6:30 PM IST & 9 AM Local Time). The winner of this match will progress to the finals on 17th September (10:30 PM IST & 1 PM Local Time).
So, we wrap up the league phase of the Women's Caribbean Premier League 2022 with a historic win as Guyana Amazon Warriors get the better of Barbados Tridents Women for the first time in the history of the competition. And we also got our three teams that advanced to the next stage of the WCPL.
Chloe Tryon (Guyana Amazon Warriors Women Captain): "(On this historic victory) Yeah, incredible. I think after the first innings, we said it was a good wicket. We were happy that we managed to stop Hayley when she was going. But yeah, it looked like a really good wicket. We knew 150–158 was probably par, but we knew we had to start really well. To see Tazmin and Eboni just go like that was incredible. They set us up nicely for the game.

(About Shenata Grimmond) Yeah, it was incredible. She was bowling for the ball and, you know, with the shorter boundary, I think she just bowled really consistently. She knew her plans, was pretty calm in her run-up, and it was nice to see her take control of it. She did a little bit of convincing at the back end, but I was happy to give her that over, and she did really well. So yeah, I’m happy that she bowled well today.

(About the quality of cricket) Incredible. It’s just going from strength to strength. Scoring 150 is not easy to chase down. So yeah, just to see that was incredible. It’s not nice to be on the field when you see it happening against you, but it’s nice when it’s your own teammates. So yeah, it’s incredible to see how far this tournament has come since the first time I played in it.

(About the approach for the playoffs) Probably just be a bit more consistent in the middle, especially with the ball. I felt like we started off really well with Connell and Shabnim. But yeah, in the middle, we kind of lost it a little bit and then pulled it back nicely again, before losing it a little bit. So, just making sure we’re a little bit more consistent during that middle period. It is hard with the shorter boundary. It becomes a little bit difficult sometimes. But I just think if we can control one side of the wicket and stay nice and calm, we can get through. But look, we’ll take the confidence from this game. We know we have to be up there against them again. We’ll reflect a little bit, see what we can do differently, and then come back stronger.

(How happy is Shakira Salman with this win?) eah, I don’t think she stops smiling! I think she’s a little bit stiff on the sideline. But yeah, she’s been great to work with. Obviously, I’ve known her for 14 or 15 years, so it’s nice to see her taking control of the team. It’s just good to see how many ideas she gives me, and yeah, we work really well together."
Hayley Matthews (Barbados Tridents Captain): "(On the game) Yeah, it was a really good game, one that went back and forth quite a bit. We couldn’t pick a winner until the very end, so it was a great contest.

(On her performance) Yeah, I’m pretty happy for her to get some runs today and be able to contribute with the bat. It was probably a bit uncomfortable at the crease at first, but I wanted to give myself some time. I was happy to be able to flourish and get into things a bit more as the innings went on.

(On Kiran Navgire) Yeah, she was really good today. It was like the first match where she was able to stay at the crease and hold the innings together. So yeah, very crucial there at the number three position. Going into that second half, we were quite happy with the score and happy with the performance we put on with the bat.

(On Suzie Bates) Yeah, she’s been in some incredible form. She has scored the most runs in international T20 cricket in the world, so obviously she’s a legend of the game. You kind of expect these things from her, but she seems to keep getting better with age. So we’re really happy to have her on our side, and hopefully she continues to flourish as we head into the playoff match as well.

(On the upcoming playoff game against Guyana) Just those little moments, I think. We played a lot of the game really well today and probably won a lot of the match. So I don’t think there’s too much to change. We probably let a few big overs happen, which were the real deciders of the game—those overs that went for 15-plus. So if we can keep those massive overs from happening and be able to contain them from the other end, I think we’ll be in a pretty good position. And I guess we need to replicate what we did today with the bat, or even do better."
Tazmin Brits (Guyana Amazon Warriors and POTM): "(On her twerking celebration) No, look, I think I have to go for a few rubdowns after all this twerking. This team has definitely got me twerking. I’ve never twerked in my life. This is probably the most I’ve ever twerked. But yeah, it was a bit of a team thing because I always do celebrations. They asked, “What’s next?” I said, “Why don’t you guys give me one?” And you know Mills likes to do this little twerk, so yeah, I was all game for that.

(On her win) It feels pretty good. I’m actually amazed to hear that because, I mean, if you see what we have in this camp, we should be chasing 180s. I think our batting lineup goes very, very deep. So yeah, I’m very interested to know that.

(On Ebony Brathwaite) Yeah, we were trying to get the powerplay going, so she was a bit of the swing-and-hit person. It’s actually crazy to think she’s so young. I think she’s only 17, so she definitely takes the pressure off me, and I like to see that. I mean, hitting those three sixes there—you can’t ask for more.

(On her tattoos) Yeah, I’ve got quite a few. “Small Victories” is just about life in general. It’s the small victories in life that actually make it. It’s not the big ones. You’ve got to go through the smaller ones in order to get to the big ones. And then there’s the coffee cup. I just love coffee, and when you go overseas, a lot of people can’t speak English, so I just point at the coffee cup and then they show me where I can get coffee.

And yeah, the tattoos - "2012" - when I had a massive car accident. And then there’s “Everything in Time.” I think God writes your script. You just have to show up, and how you show up is, you know, it’s on Him. He writes everything."
Player of the Match: Tazmin Brits
Realeanna Grimmond hit the winning runs with a first-ball maximum to advance to the playoffs. Earlier in the day, skipper Hayley Matthews led the charge from the bat for the Barbados-side with a half-century as BT-W posted a fighting total of 158/7. But the target never seemed to be enough, given how the surface was playing and credit to the approach of Guyana batters as well.
Shemaine Campbelle arrived at the crease and marked her presence with some authentic strokeplay in front of the Barbados crowd. She held her end firmly and took the game away from Barbados. She was removed by Cherry-Ann in the penultimate but she did her job with a well-stitched 36. She found a reliable ally in the form of Nadine de Klerk, who made valuable 20 runs as well.
Chasing down the target of 159, GAW-W started well with both openers, Eboni Brathwaite (22) and Tazmin Brits (46), giving a 47-run opening stand. At the halfway mark, Guyana were 81/1 and were in total control of the chase. But Barbados slowed down the run flow in the next five overs to slightly crawl back into the game.
