5:18 PM IST, 9:48 PM Local Time: So that’s that and it’s the Brisbane Heat that have secured a win by15 runs after defending a target of 173 against Sydney Thunder.

Opting to bat first, it was the ideal start for Sydney Thunder as Gurinder Sandhu got rid of Colin Munro for a golden duck. However, it was then Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney who came together to compile a 106 run stand.

It was McSweeney 73 (52) who did most of the heavy lifting with seven fours and a six, whereas, Josh Brown 39 (29) played the role of an anchor before getting sent back by Daniel Sams. Matt Renshaw 17 (9) and Sam Billings 23 (13) played brief cameos as Tanveer Sangha and Chris Green got into the act with the ball. 

It seemed like the Brisbane Heat would score close to 200 but an exceptional over by Daniel Sams bagged him four wickets off the six balls. This disrupted the innings for the Heat to a large extent as they eventually were bundled out 172 from 19.4 overs. 

Daniel Sams impressed the most with his spell of 5/30 from four.

As for the run chase, Sydney Thunder got off to a positive start as the duo of Alex Hales and Cameron Bancroft struck a 58 run partnership from 6.3 overs. Hales 28 (22) was looking to accelerate further but that’s when Matthew Kuhnemann struck to take the first wicket. 

The next wicket fell on 92 but it seemed that it was coming as Jason Sangha's 11 (14) miserable stay came to an end by Mitchell Swepson. Cameron Bancroft 46 (39) topped the charts for his side but was caught at fine leg looking to scoop one during Xavier Bartlett’s over. 

With the score being 97-3 from 13.1 overs, the pressure was mounted on Thunder. Brisbane Heat made the most of the situation and got Oliver Davies 23 (16) out next courtesy a terrific caught and bowled by Matthew Kuhnemann. 

The wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals and some good catches were taken at the outfield which eventually restricted Thunder to 157-9 from 20 overs. 

It was a collective effort from the Brisbane Heat bowlers as Spencer Johnson and Matthew Kuhnmann struck two wickets each while giving away 24 and 25 runs respectively. 

Mitchell Swepson bagged one wicket, whereas, Xavier Bartlett stood out with his spell of 3/29 from four overs. 

So the Sydney Thunder will have to go to the drawing board as they look to bounce back, whereas, Brisbane Heat will be mighty pleased after returning to winning ways.
