That brings an to our coverage of this game. Do switch tabs as the second game of this year's competition isn't far away. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit and scorer Ashok Dayma. Bye bye.
Shashwat Jagtap (Player of the Match): [on the performance] "I was trying to execute what I prepared. The team and coaching staff backed me and I am thankful.

[on the preparation] I was trying to play the bowler before that but Bhavin sir told me to play on the merit of the ball and it worked for me."
Player of the Match: Shashwat Jagtap
Shardul Thakur (Eagle Thane Strikers Captain): "[Reflections on the match] It's nice to win the first game of the tournament. It puts you in the momentum straightaway. As I said at the toss, I was at this venue for two months. This was a fresh pitch and we wanted to see how it will behave. But it was a great job from the boys.

[On Onkar Tarmale's spell] I felt we lost a bit of momentum after that drinks break. There were two big overs. There were two options. One was shut them down and pick wickets. But Onkar has pace. I went up to him and asked what's his length to bowl on this pitch. He said to bowl fast and onto the batter's body. I said that's the perfect answer. If he keeps working on his body, he has got a bright future ahead of him.

[On their opening stand] Honestly. I was nervous in the first over. But both the batters played really well. From the second ball, they were on top of the bowlers. They kept attacking and the game was done in the powerplay. They were smart to rotate the strike and took the chances against the right deliveries. You don't often see such smartness in batting in local tournaments. It was good to see.

[On the recovery] Yeah, 100%. But we have grown up playing in Mumbai. As teenagers, we have played Maidan cricket. We used to play daily. Our passion is to play this sport. Growing up, we used to play daily. Recovery will be challenging. But that's one challenge. If you overcome it, it will be good."
Suved Parkar (Bandra Blasters Captain): [where they lost the plot?] "We lost 2 quick wickets in the middle overs. We could have given a bigger total.

[on the plans] We have kept the plans simple. We want the batters to back their strengths and deliver them. It's just about delivering. Everyone is looking in good touch.

[on the bowling] The way Shashwat and Sumeir batted, they took the game away from us. Kudos to them. It's just the first game. I'll keep backing my boys, it's a long journey ahead."
5:31 PM IST, Local Time: That's it. Eagle Thane Strikers thump Bandra Blasters in the opening match of Mumbai T20 League 2026. On the back of a scintillating hundred from Shashwat Jagtap, the Strikers beat the Blasters by nine wickets. They chase down 190 in just 15.2 overs. A comprehensive victory for them.

Chasing 190, the Strikers got off to a flying start, thanks to their openers Sumeir Zaveri and Shashwat Jagtap. Both played some scintillating strokes upfront and didn’t allow the Bandra’s new-ball bowlers to settle, scoring 93 in the powerplay. Zaveri and Jagtap brought up their respective fifties in just 18 and 23 balls respectively.

The Blasters finally managed to break the 155-run opening stand. Zaveri departed after scoring 80 off just 36. Sairaj Patil joined Jagtap who kept going strong and brought up his hundred in just 50 balls. Shashwat and Sairaj remained unbeaten on 100 and 10 respectively as the Strikers got across the line in just 15.2 overs with nine wickets in hand.

Earlier, the Blasters were asked to bat first and they lost Prateek Yadav (0) and Parag Khanapurkar (16) inside the powerplay. Skipper Suved Parkar looked good for his 30 at the top of the order before he fell in the seventh over. Jay Jain (45) and Om Keshkamat (40) rebuilt the innings with a wonderful 75-run stand before both fell in a quick succession.

The Strikers pulled back things with regular wickets before Dhrumil Matkar at six played a handy knock of 17-ball 28* to power the Blasters to 189/9 at the end of their innings. For the Strikers, Onkar Tarmale (3/28) picked up three scalps whereas Shardul Thakur (2/33) and Atharva Ankolekar (2/34) grabbed two each. Their openers then stepped up and helped them chase down the total with ease.

Stick around for the post-match presentation.
